Based on the hit 1992 film, this musical will fill the round stage with saintly sisters for the first time in Music Circus history. This will be just the third time the Bernstein masterpiece has been produced at Music Circus, and its first appearance in the Wells Fargo Pavilion; previous Music Circus productions were in 1955 and 1961. I should probably say that A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder is murderously hilarious. But the Tony Award winner isn't quite an over-the-top farce. The show's music might remind you of anything from Gilbert and Sullivan operettas to Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera, or perhaps even a bit of Sondheim's A Little Night Music. But it's not quite those, either. The unique, character-driven musical, which plays through Sunday at Broadway Sacramento, is rather silly, rather charming and all together entertaining. At tonight's St. Louis's annual Arts & Education Council Awards dinner, Broadway artist Beth Malone announced that she will star in the title role of The Muny's 2017 production of The Unsinkable Molly Brown. The production will run from July 21-27, and will be directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall. The Unsinkable Molly Brown has music and lyrics by Meredith Willson, with additional lyrics and book by Dick Scanlan, based on the original book by Richard Morris. California Musical Theatre (CMT) President and CEO Richard Lewis announced that Scott Klier, currently Executive Producer and Chief Operating Officer, will become Producing Artistic Director as of December 1. Lewis said that Glenn Casale, CMT's Artistic Director since 2009, will transition into the role of Artistic Consultant and continue to direct shows at Sacramento Music Circus, as he's done for more than 20 years.
