The Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) announces the contract extension of Andris Nelsons, the appointment of Carlos Simon as Composer Chair, and the establishment of the Humanities Institute.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra and BSO Music Director Andris Nelsons will return to Carnegie Hall, March 14 and 15, to perform for their New York audiences after a 16-month absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The complete Carnegie Hall concert schedule for February and March has been announced.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Andris Nelsons are thrilled to welcome audiences back for the 2021-22 season opener on September 30, performing the first BSO concert for live audiences at Symphony Hall since March 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated the closure of the Hall.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Andris Nelsons will present a 2021-22 Symphony Hall season, September 30-April 30, that will first and foremost celebrate reuniting with their music community post-pandemic, while also continuing the orchestra’s commitment to welcoming new audiences.

As part of Carnegie Hall’s 2021–22 season, the Boston Symphony Orchestra will perform two programs on March 14 and 15, 2022, led by Andris Nelsons. These programs will also be featured in the BSO’s 2021–22 season at Symphony Hall in Boston. Mr. Nelsons and the BSO will announce complete details of the 2021–22 season on Friday, June 18.

Beginning this Friday, May 14, Carnegie Hall will offer weekly free full-length concert streams featuring legendary classical musicians in inspirational performances from some of the finest concert halls around the world.

The Cleveland Orchestra and Music Director Franz Welser-M st announced details of their 2019-2020 season which encompasses 76 concerts over 26 weeks. One significant highlight includes a festival designed to explore music and art that was banned, marginalized, and destroyed during the Nazi's Degenerate Art movement, and the continuing impact of censorship on creative expression in society today. The festival will center on Alban Berg's Lulu, one of the 20th century's most influential operas, and includes partner programming with the area's notable arts institutions.

Frank Castorf has already staged a large part of the works of Fyodor Dostoevsky at the Volksbuhne in Berlin. Simone Young conducts another premiere at the Bayerische Staatsoper following the new production of Palestrina (2009).
