B Street Theatre Takes Student-Written Plays On the Road With FANTASY FESTIVAL XXVIII, Now thru 6/6

Last week the B Street Theatre School Tour production of Fantasy Festival XXVIII hit the road. This is the 28th year that elementary and middle school students throughout northern California have submitted original plays to B Street Theatre's annual playwriting contest for young people. Out of over 330 plays submitted this year, 6 have been selected for the tour. Two of the winning plays are from students who benefited from B Street Theatre's playwriting workshops sponsored by the Rotary International Foundations of Elk Grove and Rancho Cordova. The resulting show featuring all 6 winning plays will be performed at 144 assemblies in 110 schools in northern California between now and June 6, 2014, with a special public performance at the B Street Theatre on May 3 at 10:00am.

B Street Theatre Extends Run of WRONG FOR EACH OTHER, Now Through 4/20

The B Street Theatre is pleased to present Wrong For Each Other; the witty and charming love story from Canada's pre-eminent comic playwright, Norm Foster. Wrong For Each Other has now been extended through April 20. The four added performances are: Thurs April 17th at 8; Fri April 18th at 8; Sat April 19th at 5; and Sun April 20th at 2.

Aurora Theatre Company to Present WITTENBERG, 4/4-5/4

Aurora Theatre Company presents the Bay Area Premiere of WITTENBERG, David Davalos' audacious comedy about reason versus faith. Josh Costello (San Francisco Playhouse, Marin Theatre Company, Impact Theatre) directs this smarty-pants celebration of history, language, academia, and religion, featuring Dan Hiatt (The Arsonists), Elizabeth Carter (Trouble in Mind), Jeremy Kahn, and Michael Stevenson. Word for Word to Present Sam Shepard's 36 STORIES, 5/21-6/22

Word for Word presents "36 Stories by Sam Shepard" arranged for the stage and directed by Amy Kossow opening with a press night on Saturday May 24 8pm, running through June 22 (previews May 21-23) at Z Space's second venue, Z Below, at 470 Florida Street. Last year the Magic Theatre spearheaded a multi-theater celebration of Shepard's 70th birthday when they opened their season with Shepard's Pulitzer Prize-winning 'Buried Child.' Other companies participating in the celebration have been Crowded Fire, American Conservatory Theater in collaboration with Intersection for the Arts/Campo Santo and Word for Word.

Photo Flash: TheatreWorks' LITTLE WOMEN Opens in a Flurry

On Saturday, December 7, TheatreWorks opened the Broadway musical 'Little Women' to an enthusiastic, sold-out crowd in Palo Alto, CA. After the performance, attendees emerged into the courtyard of the Lucie Stern Theatre to find snow - make with theatre magic! - followed by a champagne reception and meet-and-greet with the cast. The B Street Theatre proudly presents the California premiere of Lisa D'Amour's Obie Awarding-winning comedy Detroit on the Mainstage. The Obie Awards, Off-Broadway's highest honor, have been presented by New York's Village Voice since 1955 to spotlight the more adventurous Off-Broadway movement's achievements. The play's wildly popular production at Playwrights Horizons earned it the coveted 2012 Obie Award for Best New American Play along with Julia Jarcho's Grimly Handsome. Now, Sacramento audiences have the limited opportunity to see the California premiere of Off-Broadway's best new comedy at B Street this fall.

Brooke Wyeth, played by Dana Brooke of B Street's Venus in Fur, forces her parents to make one agonizing choice when she decides to purge her family's darkest secret in a tell-all memoir. But in this wickedly funny new play, old resentments fester, sibling rivalries flair, and shocking revelations surface calling the very truth Brooke seeks to divulge into question. Newcomer Joan Grant joins B Street Acting Company Members David Silberman, Stephanie McVay (A Pail of Grace) and Brooke as Baitz asks how far one family will go to save itself.
