St. Dunstan's Theatre is pleased to be one of the first community theatres in Metro Detroit to present The Ultimate Christmas Show (Abridged)! This fun holiday-themed show will run for two weekends: December 8 17, 2017.

Happy Cyber Monday, pop culture and theatre fans. I know that navigating all of the obscene amounts of emails and ads and discounts can be a bit daunting when you are trying to find the ideal holiday gift for a loved one, or even for yourself. So, I have put together a list of some of my favorite potential gifts that are perfect for the entertainment lover in your life.

Northlight Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans, presents the Midwest Premiere of The Book of Will, written by Lauren Gunderson and directed by Jessica Thebus. The Book of Will runs November 9 December 17, 2017 at Northlight Theatre, 9501 Skokie Blvd in Skokie.

ABET presents THE ULTIMATE CHRISTMAS SHOW (abridged) on December 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23. Tickets are $20, Children $10 (under 18 and when accompanied by an adult). The show is by REED MARTIN and AUSTIN TICHENOR, and directed by JASON COLLINS.

In October our thoughts turn to pumpkin picking, the change of seasons, and before we know it, the Holidays. Cape May Stage continues its 2017 season of 'passion' with an Irish romantic comedy and two holiday plays that will get any Scrooge into the holiday spirit.

Evans, announces casting for the full 2017-2018 season, which includes The Legend of Georgia McBride by Matthew Lopez, The Book of Will by Lauren Gunderson, Skeleton Crew by Dominique Morisseau, The Beauty Queen of Leenane by Martin McDonagh and Cry It Out by Molly Smith Metzler.

Amphibian Stage Productions announces the cast and creative team for its third main stage play of the 2017 season, The Bible: The Complete Word of God (Abridged) by Adam Long, Reed Martin, and Austin Tichenor. Starring Aaron Fouhey, Brandon Murphy, and Scott Zenreich, the play runs Friday, July 7 through Sunday, August 13 at the Berlene T. and Jarrell R. Milburn Theatre at Amphibian Stage Productions.

Since its pass-the-hat origins in 1981, the Reduced Shakespeare Company has created ten world-renowned stage shows, two television specials, several failed TV pilots, and numerous radio pieces, all of which have been performed, seen, and heard the world over. The company's itinerary has included stops off-Broadway, at the White House, the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, London's West End, Seattle Repertory Theatre, American Repertory Theatre and Montreal's famed Just For Laughs Festival, as well as performances in Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Japan, Malta, Singapore and Bermuda, plus countless civic and university venues throughout the USA, the UK, and Europe.

The last time I laughed, really laughed at something funny, I didn't stop to ask myself what made it funny. The various classifications of comedy through the ages have never seemed that significant to learn unless I were a professor of comedy or were looking for a few items of fun trivia to share at a cocktail party. Reed Martin and Justin Tichenor love to abridge as in their Reduced Shakespeare and the History of America, both of which seem to work just fine with audiences, but if you reduce comedy, doesn't it take the fun out of funny? For the first half of The Complete History of Comedy (abridged), currently onstage at the Falcon Theatre, I felt like I was in a classroom instead of the theatre. Lists and lists of the funniest people, funniest double acts, etc were thrown at us as if we were students preparing for a major exam on the subject. But by the time the first act came to an end, in a scene filled with strobe lights, a Mack Sennett chase replete with cream pies flying and cops falling down took center stage, and what he had been hearing about started to make sense. Comedy is the slap, the pratfall, the schtik, the slapstick produce the laugh-filled relief that we get from the pressures of everyday living. Under the fast paced direction of Jerry Kernion, three geniuses of physical comedy Marc Ginsburg, Mark Jacobson and last. but hardly least Zehra Fazal prove that they can put on a show and make us laugh.
