Broadway, Chicago Stars Round Out Principal Cast of Lyric Opera's THE KING AND I

Lyric Opera of Chicago announced today casting for the remaining principal roles in its grand-scale production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I, featuring Broadway stars Kate Baldwin and Paolo Montalban as Anna Leonowens and the King of Siam. Additional Broadway artists Ali Ewoldt (Tuptim), Alan Ariano (The Kralahome) and Rona Figueroa (Lady Thiang) join the cast, along with Sam Simahk (Lun Tha) and Chicagoland artists Charlie Babbo (Louis Leonowens), Jomar Ferreras (Interpreter), John Lister (Captain Orton), David Parkes (Sir Edward Ramsay), Peter Sipla (Phra Alack) and Matthew Uzarraga (Prince Chulalongkorn). All but Lister make their Lyric debuts with The King and I.

Just in time for Valentine's Day, Musical Theatre West (MTW) presents the beloved tale of star-crossed lovers, WEST SIDE STORY, February 12-28, 2016 at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center. Due to overwhelming demand (opening weekend is sold out and second weekend performances only limited availability remains), MTW has added an extra performance on the third weekend, Sunday, February 28, 7pm. The Dolphin Show, America's largest student-produced musical, proudly announces GYPSY as the 74th Annual Dolphin Show. GYPSY is to be directed by School of Communications senior Aaron Simon Gross and produced by School of Communication seniors Brandon Nadig and Alexandra Wolfe, with support from a cast and team of over 150 Northwestern University students. GYPSY will run for five performances (with one being pay-what-you-decide) from January 22nd through January 30th in Cahn Auditorium, with tickets going on sale to the general public on November 30th.

Just announced, AMERICAN SON by Christopher Demos-Brown and DRY POWDER by Sarah Burgess have tied as recipients of the 2016 Laurents / Hatcher Foundation Award. The respective producing theaters will each receive $50,000 towards the production expenses of the premiere works. Burgess and Demos-Brown will each receive an award of $25,000.
