Photo Flash: Meet the Cast of WEST SIDE STORY at Musical Theatre West

By:

Just in time for Valentine's Day, Musical Theatre West (MTW) presents the beloved tale of star-crossed lovers, WEST SIDE STORY, February 12-28, 2016 at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center. Due to overwhelming demand (opening weekend is sold out and second weekend performances only limited availability remains), MTW has added an extra performance on the third weekend, Sunday, February 28, 7pm. Scroll down for a sneak peek at the cast!

From the first notes to the final breath, WEST SIDE STORY remains a musical masterpiece. Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Arthur Laurents, and Jerome Robbins, among the greatest artists of their day, collaborated to create the tour-de-force musical, a 20th century retelling of Romeo and Juliet.

The world's greatest love story takes to the streets of New York, circa 1950s, as two young idealistic lovers Tony (Michael Spaziani) and Maria (Ashley Marie) find themselves caught between warring gangs, the Jets and the Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas, and the 1961 film adaptation earned a triumphant 10 Academy Awards, making it the most awarded musical film of all time.

Bernstein and Sondheim's score is considered one of Broadway's finest, with songs of hope, love, and the harsh realities of life, including Somewhere,America, Maria, Tonight, and I Feel Pretty. MTW's production will be performed by a full 30 piece orchestra, using the original Broadway orchestra.

Tickets start at $20 and are available at the Musical Theatre West Ticket Office, by calling (562) 856-1999, ext. 4, or online at www.musical.org.
