The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Interim Executive Director) will honor Broadway and Hollywood legend Angela Lansbury with the 2015 Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievement in Musical Theatre on Monday, November 16, 2015 at Guastavino's (409 East 59th Street). 

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, plans have been underway for the BBC to film the London production of Gypsy this month, and now the news is official. According to the theatre's official Facebook page, equipment is in place to record the show for a later broadcast . 

Final performances of the acclaimed madcap comedy DROP DEAD PERFECT, starring the legendary Everett Quinton, will take place Oct 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th at Theatre at St. Clements (423 West 46 Street - between 9th and 10th Avenues) completing its limited engagement. The revival opened on August 23rd and received overwhelming rave reviews, critic picks, and audience accolades. DROP DEAD PERFECT is directed by Joe Brancato and written by Erasmus Fenn. Director Nick Sugar found a way to take the typical grandeur of West Side and condense it into Town Hall's tight space, bringing a deeper focus onto the character's emotions; something you don't get from most productions of the show.

Casting for Barbra Streisand's new GYPSY film is starting to move beyond rumors and clandestine meetings.

The Lost Treasures Collection, a multi award winning series of rarely performed musical gems, is back for a sixth season at Lakewood Theatre Company. This year three musicals featuring the theme 'Passport to Romance' will be presented in a concert/cabaret style. The first offering, Do I Hear A Waltz? will have only 3 performances: Friday, October 23 at 7:00 PM and Saturday, October 24 at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Performances are on Lakewood's Side Door stage at Lakewood Center for the Arts in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

To understand what is coming, let's explain what happened on Monday June 29 and August 31st. Again - that's no rehearsals to figure out staging, no music rehearsals, no choreography, and no director telling you how to interpret a scene.

When word spread quickly among Nashville's theater community that Nan Gurley had been cast as Mama Rose in Studio Tenn's 2015-16 season opening production of Gypsy, the response was universal: artistic director Matt Logan once again had proven his brilliance. Simply put, Nan Gurley - a member of Nashville theater's first family - was the perfect choice to play the overpowering and flawed mother of stripper/entertainer/author/raconteur Gypsy Rose Lee.

Jonathan Kent's five-star production of Gypsy starring Imelda Staunton as Rose will have its final performance on 28 November 2015 as previously announced.   Having smashed the all time box office record at the Savoy Theatre and subsequently recouped, Kent's production originally opened at the Chichester Festival Theatre in October last year.  Following a second set of five-star reviews, producers Michael Harrison and David Ian announced an extension to the West End run in April.

Celebrating their 50th show, The John W. Engeman Theatre of Northport has mounted a truly exquisite production of the iconic Tony winning musical West Side Story. The tale, of course, centers on Maria and Tony in a modern day – 1957 modern day - Romeo and Juliet situation. Tony and his friends have formed The Jets, though when we meet Tony, he has since left the gang, while their arch enemies, The Sharks, is headed up by Maria's brother, Bernardo portrayed by Nikko Kimzin. Maria and Tony meet at a school dance and fall in love - forbidden in their worlds.

Fiddlehead Theatre Company, the resident theatre company of Boston's historic Strand Theatre, will open the company's 21st season with the classic West Side Story from October 16-25, 2015. The finest talents direct from the Broadway revival and national and international tours of West Side Story will bring this masterwork to life on the Strand Stage.?? The production will be costumed and Directed by Stacey Stephens, original choreography recreated by Wendy Hall, and Music Director Charles Peltz will direct a 22-piece orchestra bringing Bernstein's music to life. Fiddlehead's largest season ever will continue with Disney's The Little Mermaid from November 17-Dec 6; 2015; the hit Broadway sensation RENT from February 5-21, 2016, and the timeless classic Show Boat April 22-May 1, 2016. According to an email sent to a ticket buyer and alerted to BroadwayWorld.com, plans are underway for the BBC to film the London production during the first week of October for potential broadcast and release. At this time no official announcement of either has been made, and the Savoy Theatre's Twitter account has long denied filming being planned, but stay tuned to BroadwayWorld.com for the latest.
