This week's 'Milling About' Podcast goes behind-the-scenes of WEST SIDE STORY, playing The Papermill Playhouse theater in  Millburn, New Jersey,  from June 1 through June 26, 2016. 

Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) invites audiences to fall in love this summer with Disney's Beauty and the Beast & West Side Story, running July 6 - August 20, 2016 at Stanley Park's picturesque Malkin Bowl. On alternating evenings, audiences will be swept away by these classic love stories - one, a beloved fairytale brimming with magic and mystery, and the other an electrifying story of forbidden love in the unforgiving streets of 1950's New York. 

Sharon Playhouse, under the leadership of Artistic Director John Simpkins and Managing Director Justin Ball, presents Tony Award-winner Karen Ziemba in GYPSY, with performances from June 16 through July 3 at Sharon Playhouse.  Opening Night is June 16 at 7:00pm.

Today in 1959, Gypsy opened at the Broadway Theatre, where it ran for 702 performances. Gypsy is a musical with music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and a book by Arthur Laurents. It follows the dreams and efforts of Rose to raise two daughters to perform onstage and casts an affectionate eye on the hardships of show business life. The musical contains many songs that became popular standards, including 'Small World,' 'Everything's Coming up Roses', 'Some People', 'Let Me Entertain You', and 'Rose's Turn'.

Next up in the Encores! season is Do I Hear a Waltz?, the romantic, rarely-seen 1965 musical that marked the only collaboration of Richard Rodgers and Stephen Sondheim. Do I Hear a Waltz? will star Claybourne Elder, Melissa Errico, Sarah Hunt, Zachary Infante, Cass Morgan, Richard Poe, Michael Rosen, Sarah Stiles, and Richard Troxell. The ensemble includes Kristine Bendul, Paloma Garcia-Lee, Jenny Laroche, Jennifer Locke, Nathan Madden, Skye Mattox, Devin Roberts, Manny Stark, and Alex Wong.

The move can be interpreted as a reaction to recent legislation that allows for discrimination against LGBT individuals.

The Winthrop Playmakers are thrilled to announce their upcoming production of the beloved musical Gypsy, opening June 18 at Memorial Hall at 151 Pauline Street in Winthrop. With a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jules Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and suggested by the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, Gypsy has been hailed as one of the greatest musicals ever written by The New York Times.
