An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake.

Uniting US works to INSPIRE, EMPOWER, and UNITE veteran communities through the healing power of art. By creating meaningful art, veterans are able to create a narrative to discuss experiences and emotions often left unsaid.

Theatre Arlington has announced they have selected LBL Architects and RJM Contractors to lead their renovation project made possible in-part by a generous grant from the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation earlier this spring.

Metropolis Performing Arts Centre has announced its 2021-2022 season. The 2021-2022 Season at Metropolis includes a series of popular theater productions: Groovy ‘60s musical revue SHOUT! The Mod Musical (September 16 – October 30, 2021); Thought provoking bio-musical Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill (January 27 – March 12, 2022) and more.

Synetic Theater, a center for American Physical Theater, is re-opening its doors after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of in-person events.

The Colburn School, a renowned performing arts school based in Los Angeles, today announced the first national cohort of its recently expanded Fortissima program.

The Illinois Arts Council Agency has announced the 2021 Artist Fellowship Award recipients.

Finalist Awards of $1,500 were also awarded to 10 Illinois artists for a total of $15,000. The Finalist Award category recognizes and encourages additional applicants who demonstrate considerable talent.

Sometimes a young artist makes a big impression on an ornery arts reviewer first time out of the box. Today’s subject Adelina Mitchell did just that to me and my wife a few years ago. More on that later on in the column. Now you can see her incredible talents for yourselves from the comfort of your own home Constellation Theatre Company’s streaming presentation of The Last Five Years. Tony and Daytime Emmy Award Winner Lillias White's will release her first solo studio album, 'Get Yourself Some Happy!', out July 23, 2021 via Old Mill Road Recording.  White is internationally recognized for her glorious voice and extraordinary ability to communicate the heart of a song.

The community is invited to join in celebrating the winners of this year's 8th annual Jean E. Miller Young Playwrights Competition with a free online ceremony including a digital presentation of the winning pieces, directed by this year's teaching artist, Heidi Armbruster, on Friday, June 11 at 4:00pm.
