Bridgeport's first neighborhood theater company, The Bridge, 643 W. 31st Street, opens its doors with the World Premiere of 'The Golf Ball', Today, June 13. Chicago writer, director and actor Kestutis Nakas started The Bridge as a means to bring professional quality theater and performance to the Bridgeport neighborhood at reasonable prices. The premiere production penned by Nakas, 'The Golf Ball, is a contemporary adaptation of Anton Chekhov's classic play 'The Seagull' and is set in Chicago. 'The Golf Ball', directed by Nakas, runs Todays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. June 13 through July 6. "Held Momentarily" is a poignant new musical comedy about making connections, living in the moment, and moving on in life. Conceived by a group of classmates from LaGuardia Arts High School (the "Fame" school), the piece was originally workshopped in January 2014 at The Producers' Club and has just been accepted into the New York International Fringe Festival, to be helmed by director Hunter Bird and produced by Lionel Christian and Marielle Young.

Winner of the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for The Flick, Baker earned rave reviews for her version of Chekhov's classic drama, which enjoyed its sold-out world premiere at New York's Soho Rep. in 2012.

PASSAJJ Productions is proud to present Once/Twice, two musical adaptations by veteran composer and lyricist Paul Dick (A For Adultery, Madame Bovary). Once is an adaptation of the short play A Sunny Morning by Serafin and Joaquin Quintero, while Twice is based on The Bear by Anton Chekhov. Once/Twice will be directed by Celine Rosenthal, with music direction by Ming Aldrich-Gan. This production will open tonight, May 16th at 8pm and run through June 1st at Roy Arias Stage IV at the Times Square Arts Center, 300 West 43rd Street in New York City.

The Pearl Theatre Company has named Hal Brooks as its new Artistic Director, it was announced today by the Board of Trustees. Brooks succeeds J.R. Sullivan, who served as The Pearl's Artistic Director from 2009 to 2013. Kate Farrington, The Pearl's Resident Dramaturg and Artistic Associate, has been Interim Artistic Director since Mr. Sullivan's departure.

Lenny Henry to Lead Birminhgam Repertory Theatre's RUDY'S RARE RECORDS, 4-20 September

Sharif Atkins Stars in NBT and CTH's DUTCHMAN, Now thru 5/23

Actor Sharif Atkins ('White Collar,' 'Hawaii,' 'ER') will star as Clay in the co-production of 'Dutchman' by LeRoi Jones (Amiri Baraka) by Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre (NBT) and The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH). The two theater companies are mounting the production 50 years after the March 1964 world premiere of the play at the Cherry Lane Theatre and in tribute to the late theater great Baraka, who died on January 9. Ambien Mitchell stars opposite Atkins as Lula and Lorenzo Scott joins the cast as the Conductor. Previews of the Carl Cofield-directed show begin tonight, April 30 and run through May 2, and performances run from May 3 through May 23 at National Black Theatre in Harlem.
