Harbor Stage Company's 2014 Season to Open with UNCLE VANYA, Begin. 6/19

By:

The Harbor Stage Company's 2014 season will open on Thursday, June 19th with a dynamic new adaptation of Anton Chekhov's enduring masterpiece, Uncle Vanya.

In this intimate study of a small estate overrun by grand passions, a family's fabric is threatened when its patriarch returns home with his much younger bride. Working from a raw new version adapted and directed by Artistic Director Robert Kropf (Hedda Gabler, The Seagull), Uncle Vanya will play through July 12th and feature an ensemble that includes company co-founders Kropf and Stacy Fischer, as well as Harbor Stage favorites Jeff Zinn (Fool for Love, The Agony & Ecstasy of Mike Daisey) and Amie Lytle (Church). Rounding out the cast will be Justin Campbell (Chester Theater's Turn of the Screw, WHAT's Hysteria) in the title role.

Following the success of their 2013 production of The Seagull, the company's choice of Uncle Vanya is an homage to the history and trajectory of Russia's revered Moscow Art Theatre, whose groundbreaking interpretations of Chekhov's work embodied, for the first time, a naturalistic approach to theatrical performance. The MAT's successive productions of The Seagull and Uncle Vanya introduced the world to Chekhov's radical authenticity and helped bring the playwright to international prominence.

Opening weekend performances of The Seagull will run Thursday, June 19th through Saturday, June 21st at 7:30pm, with a bonus matinee Saturday the 21st at 3pm. The final three weeks of the production will run Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30pm, through July 13th (no show Friday, July 4th; a makeup performance will be held Tuesday, July 1st at 7:30pm).

In keeping with the company's mission to present great plays at fair prices for the right reason, single tickets to Uncle Vanya are set at $20, and the group will once again host a pay-what-you-can night on the First Friday of the production's run (June 20th at 7:30pm). Following Uncle Vanya, the Harbor Stage Company will present Tom Stoppard's metaphysical radio play, Artist Descending a Staircase, and the World Premiere of John Kolvenbach's Sister Play. Subscription packages for the company's full three- play season are available for purchase through July 12th (3 plays for $55). More information on tickets, donations, and individual ensemble members can be found at www.harborstage.org.
