GROWN-ISH Sets Summer Return for June 5

Season two of the critically acclaimed Freeform comedy “grown-ish” returns for summer session on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5, at 8:00 p.m. EDT/PDT on Freeform. After a cliffhanger spring finale, Zoey (Yara Shahidi) and her friends find themselves at dramatic crossroads in their relationships, academics and adulthood. The second half of the season continues to explore important topics, including cultural appropriation, mental health, academic scandal and more. Starring Yara Shahidi, Trevor Jackson, Francia Raisa, Emily Arlook, Jordan Buhat, Chloe Bailey, Halle Bailey, Luka Sabbat, Deon Cole and Diggy Simmons, who has just been added as a series regular, the show is a contemporary take on the issues that students face in the world of higher education. “grown-ish” is produced by ABC Signature Studios and executive produced by Kenya Barris, Julie Bean, Jenifer Rice-Genzuk Henry, Craig Doyle, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland and E. Brian Dobbins.

Jay-Z Named President's Award Recipient for 50th NAACP Image Awards

The NAACP today announced that globally dominant pop culture icon Shawn 'JAY-Z' Carter will receive the prestigious President's Award during the 50th NAACP Image Awards. The President's Award is presented in recognition of a special achievement and distinguished public service with previous recipients including Jesse Jackson, Lauryn Hill, Soledad O'Brien, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice, and Muhammad Ali among others. NAACP President Derrick Johnson will present the award to Shawn 'JAY-Z' Carter during a LIVE TV special on TV One on Saturday, March 30, 2019 from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, hosted by Anthony Anderson.

BLACK-ISH Casts Bow-Centric Potential Spinoff Episode

Deadline reports Anders Holm, Tika Sumpter, and Arica Himmel will lead Black-ish's upcoming Bow-centric episodes, which features flashbacks of Tracee Ellis Ross' Rainbow. Gary Cole, Ethan William Childress, Mykal-Michelle Harris and Second City Chicago alum Christina Anthony have joined the potential spinoff series set in the 80s and 90s.

Tom Joyner To Receive Vanguard Award At 50th NAACP Image Awards

The NAACP today announced that mass media icon Tom Joyner will be honored with the Vanguard Award at the 50th NAACP Image Awards. The Vanguard Award is presented to a person whose groundbreaking work increases our understanding and awareness of racial and social issues. To date, the special award has been presented to Aretha Franklin, Clive Davis, surviving Memphis Sanitation Workers, Prince, Russell Simmons, Stanley Kramer, Steven Spielberg and Wyclef Jean. The 50th NAACP Image Awards will air during a LIVE TV special on TV One on Saturday, March 30, 2019 from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, hosted by Anthony Anderson.

Shania Twain to Honor Lionel Richie at Power of Love Gala

Global Superstar Shania Twain will present Lionel Richie with an honorable award at Keep Memory Alive's 23rd Annual Power of Love® Gala on Saturday, March 16, at MGM Grand Garden Arena. The pair duetted on a re-recording of 'Endless Love' in 2012, hitting the top of the Billboard U.S. Hot Singles Sales charts. Twain will present Richie with an award in honor of his impactful musical contributions to the world and his support of Keep Memory Alive and its mission to find a cure for memory disorders by raising necessary funds for Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health.

Anthony Anderson to Host the 50th NAACP Image Awards

Today, the NAACP announced that Anthony Anderson is set to return as host for the 50th NAACP Image Awards. Anderson is a two-time NAACP Image Awards Winner for his role on blackish, and will be hosting the show for the 6th consecutive year. Winners for the 50th NAACP Image Awards will be revealed during the two-hour LIVE TV special airing on TV One on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 9pm/8c from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Hulu to Debut Air Jordan Documentary 'UNBANNED: THE LEGEND OF AJ1'

Hulu and Lionsgate today announce that UNBANNED: THE LEGEND OF AJ1, the powerful and inspiring true story of how Air Jordan 1 (AJ1) transcended sport to become a global phenomenon, will stream exclusively on Hulu. From first time filmmaker Dexton Deboree, the documentary interviews culture-defining titans, including NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan himself, Quincy Jones, Spike Lee, Lena Waithe, Carmelo Anthony, Chuck D, and Phil Knight among others, to explore how AJ1 was not just a sneaker, but a worldwide movement that broke through barriers of race, age, and gender to define the culture in which we now live. Lionsgate acquired the documentary which is set to make its exclusive streaming debut on Hulu on February 14.

A STAR IS BORN, GREEN BOOK Among Winners at the Guild of Music Supervisor Awards

 Tonight, the Guild of Music Supervisors hosted its annual awards show in Los Angeles, honoring Marc Shaiman with the Icon Award and Joel Sill with the prestigious Legacy Award for his creative contribution to music in film. The evening kicked off with special opening remarks from Guild of Music Supervisors President Thomas Golubi?, and featured performances by Aimee Mann, Lukas Nelson, Spotlight Artist King Princess, and a surprise act by Marc Shaiman.

NAACP IMAGE AWARDS to Air Live on TV One

The 50th NAACP Image Awards will air LIVE on TV One, a division of Urban One, Inc., on March 30, 2019. For the first time ever, the telecast will take place from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California. The announcement was made today by NAACP National Board of Directors Chairman Leon W. Russell, NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson, Chief Executive Officer, Urban One, Inc. & Chairman/CEO, TV One Alfred Liggins and TV One General Manager Michelle Rice.

Freeform's GROWN-ISH and Scholly Announce $125,000 Student Loan Payoff

To celebrate the second season of “grown-ish,” premiering TONIGHT, JAN. 2 (8:00 p.m. EST), Freeform has teamed with the scholarship app Scholly to announce a student loan payoff of up to $125,000 for current students and graduates with an outstanding loan balance. Acknowledging that student loans have crippled a generation of young Americans and are keeping them from achieving their dreams, the program aims to help student loan borrowers pay off debts that may be holding them back from living their best lives. Thus far, Scholly has helped students win over $100 million dollars in scholarships and aided many in reducing their debt.
