The Bushwick Starr presents the world premiere of The Conversationalists, created by the popular downtown musician-storyteller duo James & Jerome (Piano Tales at Joe's Pub at The Public Theater, Ink at the Metropolitan Museum of Art) and developed with and directed by Annie Tippe (Octet at Signature Theatre, Ghost Quartet at The Bushwick Starr, etc.).

Signature Theatre (Paige Evans, Artistic Director; Harold Wolpert, Executive Director) will celebrate the release of the Original Cast Recording of Octet, the critically acclaimed world premiere musical by Residency 5 playwright Dave Malloy, with a special celebration on Monday, January 27th at 6:00pm in The Pershing Square Signature Center Lobby. The event will include a special performance and CD signing by the Octet cast and creatives. The event is free and open to the public. Nonesuch Records releases the original cast recording for three-time Tony Award® nominee Dave Malloy's musical Octet-recorded live during Signature Theatre's world premiere production at The Pershing Square Signature Center-on November 15, 2019 digitally and on January 17, 2020 on CD.

The Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF), the not-for-profit foundation affiliated with Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, presented the third annual SDCF Awards including the Gordon Davidson Award, Zelda Fichandler Award, Joe A. Callaway Awards, and Breakout Award. The event took place on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at the Laurie Beechman Theatre.

Tony Award-winning actress LAURA BENANTI (My Fair Lady) has been announced to host and perform at the 17th annual BROADWAY STANDS UP FOR FREEDOM concert on Monday, October 28 at 7:30 p.m. at The Town Hall in New York City (123 W. 43 St.) Also joining the previously announced line-up of stars will be performers ALYSHA UMPHRESS (On The Town), KIM BLANCK (Octet) and MILI DIAZ (Wicked).  

The lineup has been announced for the 17th annual Broadway Stands Up For Freedom concert on Monday, October 28th at 7:30 PM at The Town Hall (123 W. 43 St.). The lineup includes Kelli O'Hara, Montego Glover, Judy Kuhn, Phillipa Soo, Eva Noblezada, Krystina Alabado, Julia Murney, Jeannette Bayardelle, Shoba Narayan, Shaina Taub, Starr Busby, L Morgan Lee, We Mcdonald, Liana Stampur, and The Brooklyn Youth Chorus.

Ucross, a prestigious artist residency program and creative laboratory for the arts, and the Alley Theatre, one of America's leading regional theatres, today announced an innovative new collaboration in support of theatre artists. It's that time of year again. One of my favorite times of year. That time when I get to spend the weekend at Village Theatre checking out the shows brought together by the folks at Village, spotlighting new works around the country. Some amazing, some needing work, but all showing promise. Now, of course, I can't review any of these. They're all still works in progress and not fully staged. But I can share what went on over the weekend as a potential coming attraction of musicals to come to a theater near you.

With The 19th Annual Festival of New Musicals taking place this upcoming weekend, Village Theatre is excited to announce the casting for XY, an uplifting musical about identity and coming to terms with your past; Cold Turkey, a wild and funny satire; Modern, an inspiring tale about a group of Amish teenagers; Eastbound, an poignant story about Chinese brothers in search of a home they've never known; and Cowboy Bob, an adventurous rock musical about a bank-robbing woman. The Festival will take place in Issaquah August 9-11, 2019 and provides an essential platform for writers to develop new works. Past Festival shows include Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning shows such as Next to Normal and Million Dollar Quartet, as well as Broadway and Off-Broadway hits: It Shoulda Been You, Desperate Measures, Lizzie, and many more.

Two River Theater announces the lineup for its 9th annual Crossing Borders (Cruzando Fronteras) festival of plays and music by Latinx theater artists. The summer festival will take place August 1-4 and will include free readings of new plays, live music and conversations with artists.
