A new Broadway season has arrived at last, full of exciting new shows and revivals of beloved classics. While many of them are original concepts or based on plays, 10 are already films that you can watch from home. Uncle Vanya was filmed on stage under strict covid protocols at the Harold Pinter Theatre in the middle of 2020. The new film version of the production had a cinematic release ahead of being broadcast on BBC Four, making it the first UK stage production closed by the Coronavirus pandemic to have been filmed and produced for the screen.

The U.S. premiere of Conor McPherson’s adaptation of Uncle Vanya will premiere as part of PBS Great Performances on Friday, May 7.

Rosalind Eleazar (The Personal History of David Copperfield, Deep Water, The Starry Messenger) plays Yelena, with Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education, Downstate) as Sonya, the Emmy Award-winning Anna Calder-Marshall (LOVE, Evening at the Talk House, Male of the Species) as Nana, the Olivier and Tony-award nominated Dearbhla Molloy (The Ferryman, Dancing at Lughnasa, Juno and the Paycock) as Grandmaman, Peter Wight (The Birthday Party, Hamlet, The Red Lion) as Telegin and Olivier Award-nominated Ciarán Hinds (Translations, Game of Thrones, Girl from the North Country) as Professor Serebryakov.

Casting has been announced for LOVE, a new play about the housing crisis by Alexander Zeldin, which premiered at the National Theatre to critical acclaim in late 2016, and transfers to the Queen's Theatre Hornchurch from 25 - 27 October. Reprising their roles are original cast members Emily Beacock, Anna Calder-Marshall, Luke Clarke, Janet Etuk, Nick Holder and Yonatan Pele Roodner. Waj Ali, Rosanna Beacock and Mimi Malaz Bashir complete the cast.

The National Theatre has today announced its new season

BBC Arts, BBC Films and Arts Council England have together partnered with Cuba Pictures and the National Theatre to bring LOVE to BBC Two later this year. Friends star David Schwimmer joins the team as executive producer. 

World premieres, new writers and ground-breaking adaptations have been announced for 2017 at the National Theatre.
