'Hurricane Diane' is a fun and thought-provoking production, though you’ll certainly have more fun if you don’t think too hard about the technicalities of the show itself. There’s a lot to enjoy, and a good takeaway message, and, sometimes, that’s enough for an enjoyable theatrical experience.

Avant Bard’s production of Julius Caesar is thoughtful, charming, and thoroughly entertaining. It’s well worth the trip over the river for Shakespeare fans and critics alike, and will hopefully change the way you view the classical figure and play that loom so large in our world.

August Wilson was always a font of stories. In addition to the 10 plays of his lauded Pittsburgh Cycle, there were books, essays and poems largely about the African-American experience.

Avant Bard Theatre today announced its next season, which marks a grateful return to live theatre after more than a year of remote performances and programming. Avant Bard proudly announces the last production of its 2016/2017 season, Shakespeare's masterpiece King Lear starring local acting legend Rick Foucheux as Lear.  

Shakespeare may not have known Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in his time, but Director Tom Prewitt sees all the classic symptoms in Othello. With this lens of PTSD, WSC Avant Bard's current production becomes an examination of civilian vs. military life, generational differences, differing life experiences and, at its core, the terrible ravages of war. Race, the central feature in so many interpretations of Othello, is almost incidental here.

Silver Spring Stage presents the community theater premiere of God of Carnage by Yasmina Rez, translated by Christopher Hampton, directed by Adam R. Adkins and produced by Bob Scott, the witty and entertaining depiction of two sets of parents that turn a simple playground fight between their kids into a full-blown brawl. God of Carnage will perform weekends tonight, September 19 to October 11, 2014.
