Join the Black Broadway community as they perform inspirational cover songs at Darkness RISING: Live 2. The concert benefits Darkness RISING Nonprofit, an organization which focuses on mental wellness in the Black community. The event will be held at the Knitting Factory Brooklyn at 7pm (doors open at 6:30pm). Knitting Factory is located at 361 Metropolitan Ave in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The evening will incude vendors, raffle prizes, a silent auction and a full bar, and will be hosted by Broadway Black's Drew Shade. Tickets can be purchased at bkknittingfactory.com.

He will be replaced by Michael James Leslie, who has played the role of Audrey II to critical acclaim on Broadway and more.

I cannot think of a more fitting way to say thank you to Baltimore Center Stage Artistic Director Kwame Kwei-Armah than attending SOUL THE STAX MUSICAL which runs to June 10, 2018.
We want the same songs we (or our parents or grandparents, as the case may be) grew up with, every note of the horn arrangements, and the original singer's voices, imparting each smidgen of intonation and pacing that the original singe added to the song. A historical frame for the musical is perfect for catering to that simple but demanding taste: You want to see Otis Redding singing (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay? Fine, we've reached 1967 in the story, so here he is! And damn, doesn't he sound good?
As you know, February is Black History Month. We here at Broadway Sessions wanted to take a moment to reflect on the massive impact of African American legacy on Broadway and beyond. We rallied an incredible roster of some of Broadway's most fantastic voices to speak and sing on the subject. The result was moving and hilarious and powerful and poignant. And the singing? Well, let's just say y'all aren't ready for this!
