BroadwayWorld has learned the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta has announced their 2019/2020 season including three world premieres, including the new musical BECOMING NANCY directed by two-time Tony Award® winner Jerry Mitchell, two musicals, including MAYBE HAPPY ENDING directed by two-time Tony Award® nominee Michael Arden, and three productions for youth and families including the world premiere of  MAX MAKES A MILLION based on the book by Maira Kalman and adapted & directed by Liz Diamond.

Georgia Ensemble Theatre (GET), the professional North Fulton theatre company, announces that it will remount its acclaimed production of the Pulitzer prize-winning play Driving Miss Daisy by Alfred Uhry this summer.

American Repertory Theater of WNY is halfway through the 2018-19 season, and what an exceptional season so far. From the highly acclaimed musical HEATHERS to the provocative production of FOOL FOR LOVE, this season is "one for the books". And it ain't over just yet. ART/WNY will be presenting the moving and timely music PARADE from March 21st to April 13th.

Georgia Ensemble Theatre (GET), the professional North Fulton theatre company, is producing the Pulitzer-prize winning playDriving Miss Daisy as their fourth of five mainstage productions this season. Jason Robert Brown's landmark musical Songs for a New World (New York City Center 2018 Encores! Off-Center Cast Recording) is released today, Friday, January 25, in streaming and digital formats, in addition to a two-CD set. This is the show's first recording since the world premiere album over 20 years ago. In the ensuing years, these songs have become staples of contemporary musical theater, including the modern standard "Stars and the Moon." Theater for the New City takes you to the past where theater ghosts enlighten the present in Ghost Light Now & Then, a new play by Barbara Kahn.

ABET presents THE ROBBER BRIDEGROOM January 25 and 26, and February 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, and 10. Book and lyrics are by Alfred Uhry, music by Robert Waldman, and adapted from the novella by Eudora Welty. The show is directed by Bradley Akers, with musical direction by Anthony Felton and choreography by Amanda Baillie.

Dunwoody's own professional theatre, STAGE DOOR PLAYERS, kicks off the 2019 leg of their Sapphire Season with a celebration of heritage in Alfred Uhry's Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award award winning THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO, directed by Mira Hirsch. Originally designed as a series of vignettes based on Uhry's childhood memories, this character study of intra-ethnic bias and identity was commissioned for the 1996 Summer Olympics, seeing its premiere at the Alliance Theatre. 

Jason Robert Brown's next big musical project is on its way to the stage!According to an Equity casting notice, his adaptation of the 1993 film Farewell My Concubine will get a staged reading February 11-15. The project, which features a book by Kenneth Lin, will receive direction by Moises Kaufman and musical direction by Thomas Murray.

LAGUNA PLAYHOUSE presents the fourth show in its 98th season, four-time Emmy winner Michael Learned ("The Waltons") and Lance E. Nichols (HBO's "Treme") staring in the Pulitzer Prize award-winning play, DRIVING MISS DAISY, written by Alfred Uhry and directed by Michael Bloom.

Happy New Year Rochester theatre-goers! It is now officially 2019, and with it a new year full of wonderful theatrical productions of all varieties on stages large-and-small across the 585. We're fortunate to live in a city with some of the most diverse and eclectic arts organizations in New York State, so I thought I'd take a minute to highlight some of the productions I'm most excited about in 2019. A couple caveats: #1, the typical theatre season runs September(ish)-June(ish), and most theatre companies haven't announced their 2019-2020 seasons yet, so this article really only encompasses the first half of 2019; and #2, my theatrical tastes and interests aren't necessarily representative of the wider theatre-going community, so this list may not reflect Rochester's most anticipated or talked-about shows on the horizon (notice RBTL's upcoming run of Hamilton didn't make the cut, not for lack of worthiness). That being said, enjoy, and as always your thoughts and feedback are welcome!
