The Coolidge Corner Theatre has announced a “Cinema in 70mm” film series to take place in September 2024. The Coolidge’s historic, 440-seat Moviehouse 1 will be outfitted to show 70mm prints of classic films.

South Pasadena Theatre Workshop has announced the dynamic staging of The 39 Steps, adapted by Patrick Barlow from the novel by John Buchan and based on the celebrated Alfred Hitchcock film. This comedic parody play features an ensemble of five LA-based actors and runs from July 31 to September 1st.

A stage adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1930’s spy film (which was in turn was an adaptation of John Buchans novel), The 39 Steps is a madcap dramedy set in 1935 but many of its themes feel relevant today, despite the wacky premise of just four actors playing 139 characters.

]The Virginia Theatre Festival is wrapping up its 50th Anniversary season with the two-time-Tony Award-winning, hilarious whodunit The 39 Steps which opens on July 25. 

Edgar Allan Poe and the characters of his fantastic universe are brought to life in the production prepared by Laterna magika, combining dance, singing, original music score, instrumental music, vivid stage design and striking costumes, objects, and marionettes.

Overall, The 39 Steps at Oyster Mill is a delightful production, filled with comedy, mystery, and energy. It is sure to be an audience favorite, so get your tickets before it completely sells out!

East Lynne Theater Company in Cape May will produce an updated version of “Dial M for Murder” by Jeffrey Hatcher for five weeks this summer. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays from July 31 to Aug. 31.
