Amsterdam's Pip Blom will release their debut album Boat on May 31 via Heavenly/[PIAS] and recently made a splash at their first-ever US appearance at SXSW, with the Chicago Tribune naming them one of the Best Up-and-Coming Bands at SXSW, and the Austin Chronicle calling them one of 9 Must-See Rockers at SXSW. Today the quartet share Boat's exuberant second single 'Ruby.' The single comes via a video directed by Raymond van Mil, who says, 'We started with flamingos. Apparently there are two distinct families standing some 20 meters apart on one exact place in Zeeland/the Netherlands. We went there and were in amazement, it looked so alien in the Dutch landscape. From there the UFO story unfolded and was fun. Was it a dream? A memory? A documentary? Only Pip knows. '
Today, Iowa singer-songwriter, Lissie, has released her new album When I'm Alone: The Piano Retrospective via Cooking Vinyl. For Lissie, her past—the last decade or so, to be specific—is something still very much alive and open to interpretation and rephrasing. With When I'm Alone: The Piano Retrospective, she is showing listeners that her past is hardly static, that the songs she wrote nearly 10 years ago are still fresh and vibrant, evoking a feeling of old and new.

On Wednesday, May 8 (7 pm), the five 2019 Fellows in Kaufman Music Center's Luna Composition Lab mentorship program for young, female-identifying, non-binary and gender non-conforming composers will premiere their commissions at Merkin Hall. As part of Kaufman Music Center's multi-year Solar Flare series, the program also includes Shelley Washington's A Kind of Lung, Mary Halvorson's Spirit Splitter and music by Alex Temple. The LA River is on the verge of a new era. For the past six months, The Soraya/CSUN have brought together eco-artists, students, musicians, dancers, and composers in order to explore the waterway's many complexities in order to tell its story as it is about to change forever. With a mixture of civic pride, environmental awareness and astonishing creativity, this group of artists has harvested vast amounts of wild non-native river reeds, plastics, river rocks and more-all utilized as creative inspiration that will be celebrated in a daylong free festival, Future Currents: LA River, on Friday, April 5 starting at 11am at The Soraya/CSUN.
