What happens when a gentle zookeeper is under the weather and needs help instead of giving help? Young audiences will get lessons in kindness and compassion when Virginia Rep on Tour presents "A Sick Day for Amos McGee" at Mercer County Community College's (MCCC's) Kelsey Theatre on Saturday, March 16 at 2 and 4 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is located on the college's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

Amos McGee is as caring and conscientious a zookeeper as you will find. Day after day, he interacts with his friends in meaningful ways: playing chess with the elephant, running races with the tortoise, spending quiet time with the timid penguin, and always being there with a handkerchief when the sniffling rhino needs one. When Amos himself feels ill and must remain home in bed, his animal friends get together to figure out what they can do to repay his acts of kindness. the show emphasizes that compassion and togetherness are the best medicine of all. Presented as part of the Kelsey Kids Series,

Based on the popular children's book by Philip C. Stead and illustrated by Erin E. Stead, the show is adapted for the stage by Bruce Craig Miller. Virginia Rep celebrates over 40 years as a nonprofit, professional theater, presenting exciting and innovative theatrical productions for young audiences. In addition to shows at its home theater, Virginia Rep On Tour performs plays and musicals at hundreds of venues nationwide.

Tickets for "Sick Day for Amos McGee" are $10 for children and seniors, and $12 for adults. Tickets may be purchased online at www.KelseyTheatre.net or by calling the Kelsey Box Office at 609-570-3333. Kelsey Theatre is wheelchair accessible, with free parking available next to the theater.
