The Educational Theatre Foundation (ETF) will honor Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman with the Broadway Back to School Award, which recognizes the impact of key leaders in the theatrical industry and education in building access and excellence in school theatre. Shaiman and Wittman were among the first creative leaders in the theatrical industry to recognize that the involvement of young students in musical theatre was essential for their success in school and life as well as for the progress and growth of the industry.

Key leaders in education and the theatrical industry will be honored by the Educational Theatre Foundation  (ETF) with the Broadway Back to School Award. The inaugural recipients are Freddie Gershon, Co-Chairman of Music Theatre International (MTI), and Dr. Sharon Dunn, formerly Senior Manager for Arts Education for the New York City Department of Education, for their work in initiating the Broadway Junior program, which was a breakthrough in the history of school theatre.

Myrna and Freddie Gershon hosted a full house at 54 Below on Thursday the 26th of September for the 30th Anniversary Celebration of songwriting team Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

The New-York Historical Society will honor supporters of musical theater education Myrna and Freddie Gershon and Manhattan P94M principal Ronnie Shuster during the fifteenth annual American Musicals Project Benefit, on Monday, May 20, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. Guests will be treated to an evening of music from Broadway's golden era featuring the songs of Lorenz Hart and Rodgers & Hammerstein. Ticket proceeds benefit the American Musicals Project, a creative educational curriculum.

Members of the cast of HAIR will perform the signature song 'Hair' at the Apollo Theatre today - Monday, November 10 - during a ceremony in which Mayor Michael Bloomberg will present a Mayor's Award for Arts and Culture to HAIR composer Galt MacDermot and five others members of the arts community.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg will present the Handel Medallion to Neil Simon at a reception at the Apollo Theatre Monday evening, November 10. The Handel Medallion is the highest official honor given by the City of New York and is presented for outstanding achievement in the arts.
