The Public Theater will present the Annual Gala performance of the groundbreaking and thought-provoking musical RUNAWAYS by Elizabeth Swados on Monday, June 11 at the Delacorte Theater. There will also be a free added public performance of the musical on Tuesday, June 12, open to all.

The Public Theatre has announced a free performance of the Liz Swados musical RUNAWAYS on Tuesday, June 12 at 8pm, at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) announced today that there will be a free added public performance of the groundbreaking and thought-provoking musical RUNAWAYS by Elizabeth Swados on Tuesday, June 12 at the Delacorte Theater. Directed by Sam Pinkleton, with choreography by Ani Taj, and creative advisement by Jeanine Tesori, the additional performance will celebrate the 40th anniversary of this milestone production that first premiered at The Public in 1978 and continues to be a definitive moment in Public Theater history.

Just last night, The Public Theater celebrated its Annual Gala, HAIR TO HAMILTON, 50 Years of Revolutionary Musicals, at the Delacorte Theater. Directed by Daniel Sullivan, with musical direction by Rob Fisher and Nadia DiGiallonardo, the 90-minute concert featured songs from The Public's most beloved and groundbreaking musicals performed by some of the most celebrated voices in theater.

Vassar & New York Stage and Film just announced casting for the final weeks of the 32ndPowerhouse Season, running through July 31st at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY.

New York City Center's Encores! Off-Center series kicked off the 2016 season with Runaways, beginning July 6th. With Book, Lyrics, and Music by Elizabeth Swados, choreography by Ani Taj, music direction by Chris Fenwick and directed by Sam Pinkleton, Runaways played its final performance on July 9th. On Monday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Don't Tell Mama, several young past and present performers from Broadway joined forces in a benefit cabaret to raise money and show support for the victims, survivors and those suffering as a result of the mass shooting in Orlando this month. The benefit was entitled Broadway Kids for Orlando: All You Need is Love. One hundred percent of the proceeds are being donated to the GLBT Center of Central Florida, and all 49 victims of The Pulse Nightclub shooting were honored in the program. New York City Center today announced the cast of the Encores! Off-Center production of Runaways, Elizabeth Swados' landmark musical about the stories, fears, and fantasies of runaway children. Cast largely from an open call attended by over 300 teenagers of 'all ethnicities, body types, gender identification, and ability levels,' the 'wolfpack' of 25, as director Sam Pinkleton affectionately calls them, embody the ferocious kinetic energy of today's New York-just as the original cast reflected the New York of 1978.

You can take the writer out of the theatre, but you can't take the theatre out of the writer. For the past 20 years, Aaron Sorkin has been one of Hollywood's most successful scribes. From THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT to THE WEST WING to THE SOCIAL NETWORK, and many more remarkably successful projects in between, he has continually redefined the way audiences appreciate complex and intelligent characters. However, the writer made his name with his 1989 Broadway play A FEW GOOD MEN. Three years later, when the now iconic story made its way to the big screen, Sorkin wrote the screenplay, and his career as a screenwriter was born. However, with his latest film, STEVE JOBS, which opens nationwide on Friday, Sorkin proves that he still knows how to write an incredibly powerful three-act stage play, even if it just so happens to appear on the big screen.

The concert presentation of the musical created within the NBC TV series 'Smash,' created by Theresa Rebeck, Bombshell, with music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, directed byJoshua Bergasseand Scott Wittman with choreography by Joshua Bergasse and music direction by Marc Shaiman, a one-night only landmark event benefitting The Actors Fund, took place last, June 8, 2015 at TheMinskoff Theatre (1515 Broadway).
