Over three weekends this month, June 15-30, The Kitchen's spaces will be stripped of their defining uses as gallery, theater, and office. Each floor will be emptied then activated sequentially by musicians, dancers, performance artists, and DJs using custom sound and video systems.
The Shed Launches Open Call Commissioning Program May 30

Open Call, The Shed's commissioning and programming initiative for New York-based emerging artists, launches on Thursday, May 30, with new works by seven artists and collectives presented in The Griffin Theater over six weeks. The inaugural program continues June 19 through August 25 with a group show of 22 artists and collectives in Level 2 Gallery and presentations of new work by 15 artists and collectives in The Shed's open-air Plaza; a fourth group will be presented in 2020.
Performance Space New York Announces 'Octopus,' A Series Of Guest-Curated Performances

After having recently announced a reading series organized by Sarah Schulman and an Associate Artist program, Performance Space New York continues to explore new ways of shaping its organizational structure around the creative desires of artists with Octopus, a new artist-curated series of performances (December 2018-June 2019). Occurring simultaneously but independent from the Spring season's the No Series (January-May 2019) and Schulman's First Mondays: Reading of New Works in Progress (now-May 2019), Octopus gives select artists the autonomy to bring together performers on their radar, working in any number of disciplines, for evening-length programs.

On Saturday, November 17, the LA Phil will take a deep dive into the experimental and influential Fluxus movement with Fluxconcert, one of the largest Fluxus events ever to be put on by a major symphony orchestra. Designed to dissolve the perceived boundaries between audience, musician, and work, Fluxconcert will activate Walt Disney Concert Hall with sound, light, and action emanating from throughout the building. The Community Chest, a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization helping people in need in eastern Bergen County, celebrates its 85th anniversary with a series of featured events and activities in 2018. Celebrate with The Chest its first event Still Lifes, an art exhibition sponsored in partnership with the Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC) and Apostrophe NYC, from February 8 to February 28. A portion of the proceeds of the work exhibited is contributed to The Chest.
