Richard Fitzgerald Biography
Richard is currently the founding General Manager and Artistic Director of the Vass Theatre Group which owns and operates the Alex Theatre St. Kilda.In October 2014, Aleksandar Vass invited him to redevelop the three former George Cinemas and turn them into three mid-size, commercial theatres capable of staging a variety of live performance and cinema. In February 2015, after extensive renovation, the new Alex Theatre St Kilda turned on it's lights and has been growing in popularity ever since.
2011-2013 General Manger or the Darwin Entertainment Centre, the major live performance venue in the NT. He instigated a major restructure of the business, the board and the funding arrangements, increased programming and audience numbers, and oversaw capital works upgrades.
2002-2009 General Manager of Her Majesty's Theatre Melbourne. Led the team that undertook major business reform, branding and significant capital works that included re-seating and increasing the capacity of the venue, complete remodelling of backstage to allow for major productions to play in the venue. Contracts included Billy Elliot, Miss Saigon. Chicago, Mamma Mia! (twice) Fiddler on the Roof.
When Richard resigned he left the venue with two years of forward bookings, that included Mary Poppins.
Prior to 2002 Richard enjoyed a significant career in the media/marketing working on national television shows and radio networks as a presenter/journalist and producer as well operating a very success media issues management company.

Monteverdi Choir and Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique led by Sir John Eliot Gardiner will stage a special one-off performance of Giuseppe Verdi's legendary Messa da Requiem at London's Westminster Cathedral on 18 September at 7.30pm. This unique concert will be in support of Cancer Research UK and dedicated to the memory of Richard Fitzgerald, Monteverdi Choir & Orchestras' long-standing stage manager who sadly passed away from lung cancer in August 2016.

Michael Presser's organization celebrated TV & Broadway star Daniel Dae Kim (Hawaii Five-O on CBS, currently starring on Broadway as the King of Siam in The King & I thru 6/26) and Broadway actress Andrea Burns (currently appearing in On Your Feet) at their annual awards gala at the Marriott Essex House. The Beacon Award is presented to individuals in the theatre & Times Square community who have been advocates for increasing audiences for live theatre and understanding the importance of Arts and Education in the lives of New York City's young people.

The new arts hub being created on the site of the old George Cinemas in Fitzroy Street, St Kilda today announced a name change for the site. It will now be known asAlex Theatre St Kilda. The new venue will house two state-of-the-art theatres and a professional rehearsal space/black box theatre catering for the arts and entertainment community, while still having the capability to operate as a cinema.
