The Washington Area Performing Arts Video Archive has announced the appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors. Newly elected members Felicia Curry and Rick Foucheux are both esteemed figures in the DMV Theatre Community, selected to serve alongside WAPAVA’s already impressive list of artistic, educational, and civic leaders.

Leapin' lizards! Annie, one of America's favorite spunky little redheads is coming to King Ave Players. Set during the depression, orphan Annie is determined to find her parents. In this fun-filled musical, Annie foils evil schemes, befriends the President and finds and new family for herself and her lovable mutt, Sandy. Annie boasts one of Broadway's most memorable scores with songs including "Hard Knock Life," "Easy Street" and "Tomorrow." Bet your bottom dollar you won't want to miss this family-friendly musical. Performances Thur Nov 8th - Sat Nov 10th @ 7:30 and Sun Nov 11th at 3:00 pm. Free childcare is available during the Friday evening and Sunday matinee performances. In honor of Artistic Director Michael Kahn's final season with the Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC), the opening show of the 2018-2019 Season, William Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors, will feature beloved performers, many of whom have been with the Company since the very beginning.

Shakespeare Theatre Company today announces the cast of Lerner and Loewe's multiple Tony Award-winning musical Camelot. Directed by STC Associate Artistic Director Alan Paul (Kiss Me, Kate; Man of La Mancha), the classic musical will play at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F St NW) from May 22 through July 1, concluding STC's 2017-2018 mainstage season.

It is not uncommon for actors to have multiple credits at the same theatre. However, to say that David Emerson Toney has appeared at Arena Stage several times would be a bit of an understatement.

The bustle and chaos of the Friday evening pre-show crowds on West 47th Street on Broadway are a fitting contrast to the calm that emanates from venerable DC-based actor, Nancy Robinette, who kindly agreed to chat with me about making the move to Broadway as Mrs. Alexander, in the Tony Awards® Best Play of 2015, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. We met up in front of the Barrymore Theatre, Nancy's current professional home, but DC is very fortunate to call Nancy one of our own; she was raised in Arlington, graduated from Yorktown High School, and has graced the stages of Washington's most well-respected theaters over the years, including The Shakespeare Theatre Company, Arena Stage, Woolly Mammoth, Ford's Theatre and Studio Theatre. She's a Helen Hayes Award-winner for her work in Washington, and now the work has taken her a few hours north to make her Broadway debut; although to hear her tell, no matter the city or the theater, good work is good work, and Nancy is definitely familiar with lots of good work, having performed in every major DC theatre, Off Broadway at the New York Theatre Workshop and Roundabout Theatre Company, among others, Papermill Playhouse (New Jersey), at The Williamstown Festival (Massachusetts), and in cities around the country, including San Diego at The Old Globe.

The Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) continues its 2014-2015 mainstage season with one of William Shakespeare's late masterpieces,The Tempest. STC Affiliated Artist Ethan McSweeny, following his imaginative production of A Midsummer Night's Dream two seasons ago, applies his flair for visual panache to The Tempest, in which sprites, goddesses and fools hold court. The Tempest will play at the Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW) from December 2, 2014-January 11, 2015.

The award is presented to members of the Washington-area theatre community whose work is represented in WAPAVA's archive, the James J. Taylor Collection, at the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library, in the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD, and at DC's Martin Luther King Jr. Library. The award is named for the late beloved Washington actor who is best known for his many years at Arena Stage.
