Michael Hughes Biography

New York City Bistro Award winner Michael Hughes has performed on stages around the world from Canada to Japan, Scotland to the USA.

A sought after cabaret and concert performer, Michael was a featured guest of Grammy Award-winning producer, David Foster, on his sold-out North American arena tour, David Foster & Friends. He was also the principal vocalist for The National Ballet of Canada's West Side Story Suite at the Four Seasons Centre.

Michael is the writer and star of the internationally acclaimed, Canadian Comedy Award-nominated, Mickey & Judy. In 2019, Michael was nominated for the Betty Mitchell Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Comedy or Musical for his performance in the Lunchbox Theatre production.

Timeshare performance today released new casting and production details for the world premiere of Box 4901, written by and starring Brian Francis, and co-created and directed by Rob Kempson. Box 4901 will play in Toronto at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre from February 27 to March 8, with opening night on February 28. Tickets are on sale now at buddiesinbadtimes.com.

Just as election season is heating up in America, British folk trio The Young'uns are set to return to the U.S. and bring their unique brand of social commentary to venues in the Pacific Northwest following their August debut U.S. tour.  Named 'Best Group' at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards two years in a row (2015 and 2016), they introduced their trademark harmonies, honesty and humour to American audiences during a series of east coast shows that included their debut appearance at the annual Philadelphia Folk Festival.  Their tour continues with shows in Washington State and northwest Canada beginning October 24.

Arena Stage Artistic Director Molly Smith and Executive Producer Edgar Dobie announce the 2019/20 lineup for the company's 70th season. The season reflects Arena Stage's commitment to championing diverse voices. Arena is committed to leading the way in gender equity and racial diversity by reflecting those values both on and off the stage. This season over half of our playwrights and directors are represented as women and people of color. The 70th anniversary also celebrates Arena's vision to produce new work with three world premieres, including the seventh Power Play, a decade-long initiative focused on stories of politics and power from 1776 to present day. As part of Arena's mission to serve artists on a national, regional and local scale, three exciting collaborations will take place with the Dallas Theater Center, Oregon Shakespeare Festival and American Conservatory Theater.

The Montreal English Theatre Awards (METAs) recognize and celebrate outstanding artistic work in Montreal's English Theatre. In February, the White Horse Theater Company, which has produced several rarely seen Williams plays such as A Perfect Analysis Given by a Parrot, In the Bar of a Tokyo Hotel and I Can't Imagine Tomorrow, will present a unique & immersive production of the Tennessee Williams dark comedy A Cavalier for Milady at the historic Players Club at Gramercy Park (16 Gramercy Park South) with performances on February 7 at 8pm, February 8 at 8pm and February 9 at 7pm and 9:30pm. The 2/7 show will be followed by a WHTC 15th Anniversary Celebration with a live jazz performance and the 2/8 show will be followed by a moderated talk-back with renowned Tennessee Williams scholar Dr. Annette J. Saddik.
