American Players Theatre re-imagines PERICLES, PRINCE OF TYRE, one of Shakespeare's lesser performed works, in an innovative new way-and critics are weighing in!

A FLEA IN HER EAR at American Players Theatre plays at the Hill Theatre until October 7. A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM at American Players Theatre's newly renovated Hill Theatre brings a modern spin on this Shakespearean classic, which first played on the American Players Theatre stage thirty seven years ago.

As the cold weather continues in Minnesota, the Jungle Theater warms up with an award-winning drama set in hot, steamy Florida. Anna in the Tropics opens the Jungle's 2017 Season on February 11 and runs through March 12, 2017 at the Lyn-Lake neighborhood theater, 2951 Lyndale Ave. S. in Minneapolis. The tropical heat and the American dream prove a volatile combination in this poetic and poignant play written by Cuban-born Nilo Cruz and directed by Los Angeles-based Larissa Kokernot.

Great Lakes Theater (GLT) will commence its 2016-17 season at the Hanna Theatre, Playhouse Square with a Fall Repertory that features the Tony Award-winning musical classic, My Fair Lady and Shakespeare's enchanting romantic comedy, Twelfth Night. The productions will be performed in rotating repertory September 23 - October 30, 2016. Victoria Bussert will direct My Fair Lady. Drew Barr will direct Twelfth Night. My Fair Lady (Book and Lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner / Music by Frederick Loewe / Adapted from George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion) is presented by arrangement with TAMS-WITMARK MUSIC LIBRARY, INC.

An enchanting romantic comedy, Shakespeare Twelfth Night completes GLT's Fall Repertory pairing. Hope seems lost when a violent shipwreck separates young Viola from her boat and twin brother. However, tragedy quickly turns romantic when she washes ashore in Illyria - an exotic island that is about to be turned topsy-turvy by love. To survive in her strange new world, she disguises herself as a boy messenger and enters the employ of an island inhabitant. Misplaced affections and misunderstood intentions result when she unexpectedly becomes an object of desire to the woman her employer sent her to woo! Time may correct the course of the isle's myriad misguided lovers, but not before the Bard bewitches all in his enchanting comedy.

LOVE'S LABOUR'S LOST, a production of which is now on stage at Great Lakes Theater, is one of Shakespeare's earliest plays. As such, some critics believe that it is the 'work of a playwright just learning his art.' Though many of Shakespeare's plays are brilliant and have effected the course of Western Literature, Shakespeare scholars tend to view this script as a minor work in the Bard's folio. It has never been one of the playwright's more popular works.

Great Lakes Theater (GLT), Cleveland's Classic Company, continues its 2016-17 season with William Shakespeare's classic comedy, Love's Labour's Lost. The production will be performed in the company's intimate and audience-friendly home at the Hanna Theatre, Playhouse Square, April 8 - 24, 2016. Tyne Rafaeli directs the production. I have seen a few different versions of AS YOU LIKE IT over the years. I think when watching Shakespeare it's gets easier and more enjoyable each time you see it, since you understand what is happening. However, I think this production does such a good job of telling the story through the actions they chose to go along with the dialogue, that someone who knew nothing about the story could tell you what it was about.

The Guthrie Theater today announced complete casting for its summertime romance Pride and Prejudice adapted for the stage by Simon Reade based on the novel by Jane Austen in the 200th anniversary of its publication. The production will be directed by Joe Dowling and will feature Erin Krakow (Guthrie: The Importance of Being Earnest; Off-Broadway: The Shanghai Gesture, Prometheus Bound; Television: "Army Wives") as Miss Elizabeth Bennet along with previously announced Vincent Kartheiser (Guthrie: A Christmas Carol, Henry V, Henry IV; Regional theater: Death of the Novel; Film: Untamed Heart, In Time; Television: "Mad Men") as Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy.

Boy hates girl. Girl hates boy. Boy overhears that girl is secretly in love with boy; girl hears vice versa. Other boy and girl love each other, but something gets in the way of their happiness. That's the basic premise of MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, which is now on stage at Great Lakes Theatre. Throw in a couple of interesting subplots, including an idiotic sheriff, a phony death, an irrational lover (is there any other kind?), and a vengeful half-brother, and you have the makings of one of William Shakespeare's best comedies. In fact, the fifth best of all of the Bard's plays, according to a renowned Shakespeare expert.

Great Lakes Theater (GLT), Cleveland's Classic Company, continues the second half its 2012-13 season with William Shakespeare comedy, Much Ado About Nothing. GLT's THE WINTER'S TALE is a disappointment. This is a difficult script to produce due to the many emotional and psychological levels which require a clear staging philosophy. Due to the lack of focused directing by Jesse Berger, the production never sets a clear course and leaves so much of Shakespeare's brilliance untapped.
