Writer Stan Zimmerman, known for his work on The Golden Girls and Gilmore Girls, is directing two of his original plays in Palm Springs. Knife to the Heart will conclude Desert Ensemble Theatre’s run, while Silver Foxes will make its West Coast premiere.

The dialogue is so snappy and funny that I had the feeling the director could have distributed scripts and allowed the actors to take it from there. Wonderful performances. A must-see.

Desert Ensemble Theatre will close its 15-year run with Knife to the Heart in Palm Springs. The comedy by Stan Zimmerman and Christian McLaughlin will run in April. The production will be staged at the Palm Springs Cultural Center.

As a publicity stunt to record and sell one more hit record before he is sent overseas, a televised farewell is planned with Birdie set to kiss a preselected All-American girl.

Comedian, actress, and writer Chris Farah ('Superstore,' 'Modern Family,' 'Chelsea Lately,' solo show/cult character FANCY!) hosted the evening alongside the ALNM band (Will Yanez, Eliana Athayde, and Alex Stickels) and resident musical director Bryan Blaskie.

BWW Review: GCT Performs a Rollicking GUYS AND DOLLS

My first association with musical composer Frank Loesser was as an actor in the 70s in a revue of his music. I played Sky Masterson of Guys and Dolls and sang a duet of 'I've Never Been In Love Before'. I came to realize quite rapidly how lovely his music is and how well he manages to capture the moment of genuine emotion within a song. Upon seeing Guys and Dolls several times since, I have been awestruck as well by Abe Burrows and Joe Swerling's ability to take Damon Runyon's New York Broadway characters from the 20s and blow them up into something overwhelmingly moving and appealing. The two worlds of sin and redemption have never been connected so naturally, cleverly and colorfully nor with such style and panache. Now at GCT, the cast give their all to Loesser's Runyonesque romp and it comes up a surefire hit.
