The 2019 Bard SummerScape festival presents a pair of important new dance and theater works next month. On July 5-7, Evidence, A Dance Company and its founder and artistic director, Ronald K. Brown, make their festival debut with the world premiere of Grace and Mercy. A new SummerScape commission, this two-part program pairs Grace (live), a 20th-anniversary version of Brown's soulful masterpiece Grace, now danced entirely to live music performed by Peven Everett, Gordon Chambers, and others, with the world premiere of Mercy, Brown's new companion piece, which is set to a brand-new score written and performed live by ten-time Grammy-nominee Meshell Ndegeocello.

Magic Theatre's 50th anniversary gala fundraiser was held on Friday, April 7, at the Minnesota Street Project and celebrated 50 years of artistic trailblazing by honoring the theatre's previous Artistic Directors (including founder John Lion and successors Harvey Seifter, Larry Eilenberg, Mame Hunt, Chris Smith and current Artistic Director Loretta Greco). Theatre Bay Area (TBA), the nonprofit service organization for theatre and dance in the Bay Area, is pleased to announce the three Legacy Award recipients to be honored at the upcoming TBA Awards ceremony. This year's awards recognize local performer Joan Mankin, long-time theatre patron and benefactor Jill Matichak and Steve Silver's long-standing musical revue Beach Blanket Babylon for extraordinary accomplishments and contributions to the region's theatre community at milestone points in their careers or history.
