The 2019 Film Independent Spirit Award winners were announced today, February 23. The awards ceremony was held on the beach in Santa Monica, just north of the Santa Monica Pier, and was broadcast live exclusively on IFC.

This morning, Film Independent announced the nominations for the 2019 Film Independent Spirit Awards. The Spirit Awards are the primary fundraiser for Film Independent's year-round programs, which cultivate the careers of emerging filmmakers and promote diversity in the industry. Film Independent President Josh Welsh presided over the press conference held at the W Hotel in Hollywood, with actors Gemma Chan and Molly Shannon presenting the nominations. Nominees for Best Feature included Eighth Grade, First Reformed, If Beale Street Could Talk, Leave No Trace and You Were Never Really Here.

It features some of opera's greatest arias and duets, with lyrics rewritten to hold a satirical mirror up to our own Millennial generation. Amazon Studios released the trailer for Luca Guadagnino's film SUSPIRIA, a remake of the 1977 cult classic. The film stars Dakota Johnson as a dance student who unwittingly finds herself in the midst of a “suspicious” coven of witches at an academy abroad. 

A darkness swirls at the center of a world-renowned dance company, one that will engulf the troupe's artistic director, an ambitious young dancer, and a grieving psychotherapist. Some will succumb to the nightmare. Others will finally wake up. Suspiria arrives in theaters November 2. From director Luca Guadagnino. The 2017 awards honor productions which opened between October 1, 2016 and September 30, 2017. Nominations were completely reader-submitted and after the nomination period ended October 31, BroadwayWorld's local editors proofed the list for eligibility and errors.

Avenue Q star Julie Atherton is to play Janet in the highly anticipated Rocky Horror sequel, a role previously played by Jessica Harper in the film and made famous by Susan Sarandon in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. As well as her roles as Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut in the original London cast of Avenue Q, Atherton also starred as Sister Mary Robert in the first UK tour of Sister Act: The Musical and recently won critical acclaim in the title role inTherese Raquin at the Finborough Theatre and the Park Theatre. Her third album, Rush of Life, was released at the end of 2014.

Sundance Institute today announced that it will present Alejandro G. Iñárritu with its Vanguard Leadership Award at the fifth annual Sundance Institute benefit on June 2, 2015 in Los Angeles. The evening brings the creative community together to highlight both a great visionary in independent film as well as an emerging artist with unique talent and creative independence.

Seacoast Repertory Theatre has announced that it's award winning film series, Let's 'B' Reel, will get a 'witchy' facelift for the month of October with 3 unique and interactive film screenings, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Portsmouth Halloween Parade. The 'Let's 'B' Witched' screenings also mark the one year anniversary of Let's 'B' Reel. Each week from October 8th-October 22nd The Rep will offer up a cult movie focusing on the horror subgenre of witches and witchcraft. Each will feature a unique and hilarious pre-show provided by hosts Timothy Fife and Bunny Wonderland (Knate Higgins).

Eleven young singers from Australia and New Zealand have been chosen from nearly 80 applicants to compete in the Semi-Finals of the 2014 IFAC Australian Singing Competition to be held on Wednesday 30 July 2014 at The Concourse, Chatswood.

Museum of the Moving Image's ongoing series See It Big! presents classic and contemporary films on the big screen in the beautiful Sumner M. Redstone Theater. In November and December, the Museum will showcase 22 films photographed by some of the world's greatest cinematographers, including Gordon Willis, Vittorio Storaro, Vilmos Zsigmond, Nestor Almendros, Raoul Coutard, James Wong Howe, and more. The series, See It Big!: Great Cinematographers, runs from November 8 through December 29, 2013.
