NOTES FROM THE BASEMENT to Play Dixon Place

Come join some of the Notes from the Basement team at Dixon Place on April 29th!

NOTES FROM THE BASEMENT, A New Musical By Kate Eberstadt

After spending a year working as a music teacher in an emergency refugee camp in Berlin, Jen now lives in her parents' basement - stuck. She is haunted by her memories and refuses to move forward with her life in America. Combining choral music, German house/techno, and Middle Eastern music, Notes from the Basement follows this diverse intergenerational and international cast on a journey of loss and forgiveness, taking a hard look at the American hero complex, 'voluntourism,' and finding humanity in seemingly inhuman circumstances. Mabou Mines and Trick Saddle Stage IMAGINING THE IMAGINARY INVALID at La MaMa Tonight

A classic Mabou Mines feat is to take a theatrical classic, reimagine it from top to bottom, then turn it inside out; the result is a production so spanking new that the original gleams with fresh and unexpected relevance. The tradition continues in a collaboration with Trick Saddle and the 45-year old company. The two companies combine forces in the world premiere of 'Imagining the Imaginary Invalid,' inspired by 'The Imaginary Invalid,' Moliere's piercing satiric take on the pretension, gullibility and vulnerability of we poor mortals. Presented by La MaMa, a production of Mabou Mines and Trick Saddle, the play runs January 21-February 7 at La MaMa's Ellen Stewart Theatre.
