Doris Roberts BIO

Doris Roberts was a beloved American actress, born on November 4, 1925, in St. Louis, Missouri. She was best known for her role as Marie Barone, the overbearing mother-in-law on the hit television series "Everybody Loves Raymond."
Roberts began her career in the 1950s, performing on stage in off-Broadway productions. She made her Broadway debut in the play "The Time of Your Life" in 1955, and went on to appear in several other productions including "The Desk Set" and "Last of the Red Hot Lovers."
In addition to her stage work, Roberts also had a successful career in television and film. She appeared in numerous TV shows throughout the 1960s and 1970s, including "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "Barney Miller," and "St. Elsewhere." She also had a recurring role on the hit sitcom "Remington Steele" in the 1980s.
Roberts' film credits include "The Honeymoon Killers," "A New Leaf," and "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation." She received critical acclaim for her role in the 1989 film "Steel Magnolias," in which she played the mother of Shirley MacLaine's character.
Despite her success in television and film, Roberts always maintained a love for the stage. In a 2009 interview with Playbill, she said, "The stage is my first love. It's where I started, and it's where I feel most at home."
Roberts continued to work in television and film throughout the 1990s and 2000s, but it was her role as Marie Barone on "Everybody Loves Raymond" that made her a household name. The show, which aired from 1996 to 2005, was a critical and commercial success, and Roberts' performance earned her four Emmy Awards.
In addition to her acting career, Roberts was also an advocate for various causes. She was a board member of the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation and worked with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the American Heart Association.
Roberts passed away on April 17, 2016, at the age of 90. Her death was mourned by fans and colleagues alike, and many paid tribute to her talent and kindness. Ray Romano, who played her son on "Everybody Loves Raymond," said in a statement, "She had a love for acting and a love for life that extended to everyone she met... Doris Roberts had an energy and a spirit that amazed me."
In conclusion, Doris Roberts was a multi-talented actress who had a successful career on stage, television, and film. She was best known for her role as Marie Barone on "Everybody Loves Raymond," but her work in the theater was just as important to her. Throughout her life, she used her platform to advocate for various causes, and her kindness and talent will be remembered by fans and colleagues for years to come.

CHEATERS By Michael Jacobs Comes to The Ooley Theatre

Award winning EMH Productions continues its 8th season with a romantic dramedy about love, relationships and marriage directed by local well known talent Scott Divine. This play skirts the line of farce in the tradition of Neil Simon, throwing in some real life tensions between the 3 couples it centers around: The newly formed couple deciding if marriage is right for them vs. their two sets of parents who are in various stages of unrest. This play got its start back in 1978 on Broadway a the Biltmore Theatre, notably starring Doris Roberts in the role of Saintly Grace, who sainthood undergoes some serious testing when it comes to having an affair. The playwright has since updated this play to reflect the advancement of the times in 1982 and then 2013, but its message has always remained the same. Just goes to show how some things remain relevant, regardless of the span of time.
