Deirdre Girard BIO

Deirdre Girard, who tells women’s stories, received her Playwriting MFA at Boston University. She has had dozens of one-act plays produced both nationally and internationally; her full-length productions include The Christina Experiment at The Firehouse Center for the Arts and Reconsidering Hanna(h) at Boston Playwrights’ Theatre. Deirdre was named a 2012/13 and returning 2013/14 Playwriting Fellow at New Repertory Theater, and was selected for both the Company One Play Labs and Central Square Theater’s TWSS play development programs. She recently completed a commission from Peabody Essex Museum, won QC Theatre’s Susan Glaspell national playwriting award for her one-act play In the Buff, won the 2019 Boston Playwright’s Slam, was selected for the 2020 Barrington Stage’s 10x10 festival and 2020 and 2021 Boston Theatre Marathons. She is a playwriting instructor/mentor for several organizations including Gloucester Stage, Boston University’s Massachusetts Young Playwrights Project, and Northeastern University’s Silver Masque Society, as well as a member of the Boston Playwright’s Theatre Advisory Council and an editor for Stage Source’s New Play Alliance Newsletter.

The company and seemingly all involved with BSC’s 10X10 NEW PLAY FESTIVAL have done an admirable job creating and presenting an event that is enjoyable, relatable, entertaining, and thought provoking. The 12th ANNUAL 10 X 10 NEW PLAY FESTIVAL continues on the St. Germaine Stage with performances through March 5.

The Boston One-Minute Play Festival (#1MPF) returns with a twist: the sixth annual festival will celebrate the works of all women-identified playwrights and directors, as part of 1MPF's National Women's Initiative. Boston joins New York, Minneapolis, Chicago, South Florida, and other cities including an all women-identified cohort of artists this season. The aim of this program is to get a cohort of women-identified theatremakers in the room, uphold the important themes, ideas, conversations, and dialogues that bubble up to the surface, and hold space for valuable community conversations.
