Soft-Firm's Public Art Installation DRIVE-THRU Opens Today


Downtown Brooklyn Partnership and Van Alen Institute, in partnership with Two Trees Management, today announced its annual public art installation, Soft-Firm’s Drive-Thru at the Plaza at 300 Ashland. Drive-Thru will be on view from February 18 to April 14 of 2022.

Van Alen Institute and the New York City Council today announced the winning proposals for Reimagining Brooklyn Bridge, an international design competition that aims to spark a new public conversation about New York City's infrastructure.

New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson and Van Alen Institute today announced Reimagining Brooklyn Bridge, an international competition to rethink the iconic Brooklyn Bridge walkway. Reimagining Brooklyn Bridge seeks creative, unconventional designs that respect and enhance the bridge's landmark status, think inclusively about mobility and access, and accommodate commuters, visitors, and vendors. The competition is open to all, and proposals must be submitted at vanalen.org by Sunday, April 5 by 11:59 pm ET.

The Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership's eighth annual '23 Days of Flatiron Cheer' season will run from Sunday, December 1st through Monday, December 23rd, with free, holiday-themed events showcasing the intersection of shopping, dining, and culture in the Flatiron and NoMad neighborhoods. This year's lineup includes free performances, fitness classes, holiday recipes, prizes, hot beverage giveaways, and much more.

Van Alen Institute Names Deborah Marton New Executive Director


Van Alen Institute announced today that Deborah Marton has been appointed its next Executive Director. The announcement was made by Jared Della Valle, Board Chair of the influential organization celebrating its 125th anniversary of using expansive design thinking to improve lives in cities, landscapes and regions.  Chosen after an extensive international search, Marton, currently Executive Director of the New York Restoration Project (NYRP), will assume her new role at Van Alen in September.

JetBlue Brings a Little Greenery to Your Scenery With Seventh Annual 'One Thing That's Green' Campaign


JetBlue Airways (NASDAQ: JBLU), New York's Hometown Airline, today announces its seventh annual "One Thing That's Green" (OTTG) campaign. This year's initiative will bring a little greenery to the scenery of several BlueCities. Customers and crewmembers throughout JetBlue's network are encouraged to vote to spruce up their local communities with green spaces. JetBlue is continuing its long-standing partnership with New York Restoration Project (NYRP) and the MillionTreesNYC initiative for a tree-planting event in New York. The airline will also align with Charles River Watershed Association, Seventh Generation and Bobble to clean up Boston's Charles River.

Parks Commissioner Announces Launch of New Landscape Guidelines


Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe is today joining Director of the Mayor's Office of Long-Term Planning and Sustainability David Bragdon and Executive Director of the Design Trust for Public Space Deborah Marton to announce the launch of High Performance Landscape Guidelines: 21st Century Parks for NYC at a reception at the Center for Architecture, 536 LaGuardia Place in Greenwich Village, at 6:00 p.m. The guidelines can be viewed at www.nyc.gov/parks/landscapeguidelines.
