Six months after their Birdland debut, The Swingaroos return to the legendary jazz club for the New York premiere of a?oeHollywood Serenade.a??

The Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present singer/dancer Jared Grimes, who brought an evening of high energy, non-stop, genre-fusing music and dance to the Birdland stage. The band included Mark Meadows on piano, DeWitt Fleming on drums, Bret Puchir on guitar and Brent Birckhead on sax.

Broadway Dreams just held its annual Night of Dreams Gala, honoring Tony Award-winning lyricist and composer Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty with the inaugural Arts Advancement Award. Point Park University was the leading education sponsor of the event.

Cessalee Stovall has been chasing her Broadway dreams since she was 4 years old and she still hasn't stopped. After booking The Book of Mormon, her NYC dreams were finally realized!! Then, she decided to give back! She started the Music Dance Theatre Workshop to help teenagers get on the right path to realize their own Broadway dreams. 

Basquiat, a new musical about the life and times of 80's art-star, Jean Michele Basquiat just premiered a special concert version of the show at Joe's Publast night, December 16th. The performers included Eric LaJuan Summers (Motown: The Musical) as well as Lena Hall (Kinky Boots) and Felicia Finley(Mama Mia, The Wedding Singer). Other performers include Ken Robinson (Memphis), Julius Thomas III (Motown: The Musical) Chad Carstarphen (In the Heights), Benjamin Mapp, Jimmy Lambert, Roger DeWitt, Eddie Varley andNikki Kimbrough (A Night with Janis Joplin). A new program is coming to town! Music Dance Theatre Workshops brings Broadway performers to Indianapolis to give personalized coaching and performance instruction to young actors in the central-Indiana arts community. All teaching artists are originally from the Midwest, most with ties to Indianapolis. These performers, many with Broadway credits, are excited to give back to the community that shaped them into the artists they have become today!

NEWSIES star Andrew Keenan-Bolger recently took the time to put together a music video for summer 2012, featuring some of his NEWSIES castmates and even some other Broadway veterans. Keenan-Bolger writes: 'I brought my camera along whenever I was hanging out with my friends this summer. I decided to compile the footage together in an unofficial video for my favorite song of the summer, '1904' by The Tallest Man On Earth.'

ROCK OF AGES on Broadway wanted him to stay for another six months. In spite of that, after more than 500 shows, which began in his swing job at ROCK OF AGES' first national tour two years ago and ended up in his last performance as the musical's male romantic lead, Drew, on Broadway last Sunday, Dan Domenech has opted for some time off instead. From the top Riverdance is defined as journey...that takes us from land to water and back, or from sky to land and back, from one land to another, even... from one life to the next... oh, what awesome journeys Riverdance enfolds! Incorporating dance, song and music, both traditional and contemporary, the show began in 1994 as a salute to these art forms but not without an abundance of variety. According to director John McColgan, it would be impossible to represent Irish dance without presenting ballet or Spanish flamenco, and so the Irish Dance Troupe includes dancers from Australia, Great Britain and Spain. One great highlight of Act I is the Firedance with Flamenco soloist Marita Martinez-Rey, who stops the show with her dazzling display of fast, graceful footwork and inspired beauty. Footwork of the flamenco style certainly has a lot in common with the steadily heavy footwork of Irish dancing, but you must see both to appreciate how one may have influenced the other.
