Prior to performing each work, internationally acclaimed pianist Jeffrey Siegel briefly, and in non-technical language, engagingly speaks about the music. The McCallum Theatre announced today its new lineup for the 2020-2021 season, with an exciting schedule of world-class artistry that has been the Theatre's hallmark for more than three decades. The new season includes an assortment of McCallum debuts, along with iconic superstars, long-awaited return visits from show business royalty, plus a robust comedy lineup and an impressive array of Broadway's most cherished, long-running shows.
The McCallum Theatre presents Keyboard Conversations® with Jeffrey Siegel on Monday, December 9, at 7:00pm. This performance, a?oeWarm, Romantic Music From the Cold, Far North,a?? will feature a smorgasbord of musical delights. The show kicks off with a?oeFestive Prelude,a?? a?oeThe Dream of Merry Christmasa?? and a?oeThe Spinning Topa?? by Carl Nielsen. After a?oeFantasy, Op. 11, No. 1a?? from Wilhelm Stenhammar, two Jean Sibelius works will be featured: a?oeThe Snapdragon, Op. 85, No. 4a?? and a?oeSpruce, Op. 75, No. 5.a?? Those will be followed by three works by Edvard Grieg: a?oeNorwegian Dance, Op. 47, No. 4,a?? a?oeShepherd's Boy, Op. 54, No. 1a?? and a?oeThe March of the Dwarfs, Op. 54, No. 3.a?? The first portion of the show will conclude with Christian Sinding's a?oeRustles of Spring, Op. 32, No. 3.a??
The McCallum Theatre announced today its new lineup for the 2019-2020 season, continuing to present the finest world-class artists and entertainers for Coachella Valley audiences. The new season includes McCallum debuts, returning favorites, iconic superstars, family-friendly entertainment and holiday cheer, among so much more. A CHRISTMAS STORY, WAITRESS and THE PLAY THAT GOES WORING are among the many Broadway offerings in what looks to be the most stellar season in McCallum history.
Through the generosity of Donna MacMillan, the McCallum Theatre presents Keyboard Conversations® with Jeffrey Siegel on Monday, March 25, at 7:00pm. This evening's program, "Rags to Riches" features "Rialto Ripples," "Fascinatin' Rhythms," and "I Got Rhythm" (George Gershwin); "Wall Street Rag" (Scott Joplin); "Invitation to the Dance, Op. 65" (Carol Maria von Weber); "Polka in G Minor" (Bedrich Smetana); "Polka from The Age of Gold" (Dmitri Shostakovich); "Finale of Piano Sonata No. 1" (Alberto Ginastera); "Circus Polka" (Igor Stravinsky); "Evening in Granada" (Claude Debussy); and "Stars and Stripes Forever" (John Philip Sousa).
The McCallum Theatre is tuning up for the 7th annual concert by the McCallum Theatre Concert Band, with conductor and McCallum Theatre President & CEO Mitch Gershenfeld, on Sunday, March 24, at 3:00pm. Highlights of this year's concert will be a performance of the beloved 'Carnival of the Animals' by Saint-Saens featuring pianist Jeffrey Siegel and a new text written and performed by David Gonzalez, and special guest appearances by Gavin MacLeod (narrator) and former TEN Tenor Chad Hilligus (guest vocalist). And, after the concert, there is free ice cream for everyone! I had the chance to catch up with Maestro Gershenfeld to get a glimpse behind the scenes of this season's concert. This evening's program, "Chopin in Paris", features Waltz in A-flat Major, Op. 34, No. 1; Impromptu in A-flat Major, Op. 29; three Mazurkas; Polonaise in F-Sharp Major, Op. 44; Tarantella, Op. 43, in A-flat Major; Etude, Op. 10, No. 3 in E Major; and Polonaise in A-flat Major, Op. 53.
The McCallum Theatre presents Keyboard Conversations® with Jeffrey Siegel on Monday, January 7, at 7:00pm. This evening's program, "Joyous Music of Beethoven," features some of Beethoven's most joyous compositions for piano, including "Polonaise in C Major, Op. 89," Adagio cantabile, Op. 13," "Presto con fuoco, Op. 31, No. 3," "Sonata No. 24 in F-Sharp Major, Op. 78," and "Sonata No. 26 in E-flat Major, Op. 81a." American pianist Jeffrey Siegel has been soloist with the world's great orchestras. Abroad, these include the Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony, Philharmonic and Philharmonia, Moscow State Symphony, Munich's Bayerischer Rundfunk, the Philharmonic Orchestras of Amsterdam and Oslo, as well as Stockholm, the Orchestra of La Scala and NHK Symphony of Japan.
