Orlando Church Reaches Thousands Through THE MUSIC MAN Production

By:

St. Luke's United Methodist Church's production of The Music Man opens Friday, August 14. The church, located at 4851 S. Apopka-Vineland Road in Orlando, is in its fourth year of producing "musicals with a message."

Lead Pastor, Jennifer Stiles Williams, noted that the annual theater productions draw thousands to the church campus each summer. "The event has become an incredible opportunity to showcase St. Luke's core values of hospitality, acceptance, and community," says Stiles Williams.

The show's director, Steve MacKinnon, fresh off his sold-out run of Mary Poppins at The Rep (Orlando Repertory Theater), has assembled yet another talented cast from the church and the surrounding theater community.

The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill (Sage Starkey), as he attempts to swindle the people of River City, Iowa by collecting money for a fictitious boy's marching band. His elaborate stories about the dangers of the town's new pool table spell trouble for the young men in River City. Worried parents shell out money for instruments and uniforms to protect their boys from idle time at the pool table.

Harold's plan is coming together nicely until Mayor Shinn (Jim Morrison) and the librarian, Marian Paroo (Shannon Bilo), begin questioning his credentials as an accomplished band director. There is sure to be gossip on the front porches of River City before the end of Act I.

Will Harold be run out of town or have a change of heart? March on over to St. Luke's to find out. Tickets for this light-hearted musical for all ages are $10-$12 depending on show date and time. Purchase tickets at www.st.lukes.org/musicman.
