Florida Theatrical Association (FTA) announces the First Annual New Musical Discovery Series - a showcase for new musicals to be presented September 9-11, 2016, at The MEZZ and The Abbey in downtown Orlando - and call for entries.

Aspiring writers from around the country are encouraged to submit new works to be reviewed by a panel of theatre professionals, including renowned directors, writers, producers and performers. The panel will select two works to receive a staged reading, and one additional work to have a workshop presented featuring local directors and talent. The Discovery Series will also include talkbacks for students and audiences with the playwrights and directors.

"This project is a culmination of our longstanding desire to provide aspiring writers the opportunity to showcase new musical theatre works," said FTA Education Director Kenny Howard. "The New Musical Discovery Series demonstrates our passion for serving our education and theatre mission in Orlando and throughout the state of Florida; we are looking forward to being entertained, inspired and intrigued."

The deadline to submit musicals for consideration is June 1, 2016. Entries must include a full script as well as basic recordings of at least six songs from the musical. Full submission guidelines and more information can be found at www.FloridaTheatrical.org.
