Pianist Vladimir Feltsman Comes To The Lied Center 10/26

Piano great Vladimir Feltsman comes to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Lied Center for Performing Arts Oct. 26 for a special one-night engagement.

In a season where Feltsman will be performing with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Nebraska music lovers will be thrilled by his program including Mozart's Fantasia in D minor, K. 397, Schubert's Four Impromptus, Op. 90, and Chopin's Four Ballades. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m.

"While it's always interesting and exciting to hear young, bright talents, nothing can replace the wisdom and musical maturity of an international superstar like Vladimir Feltsman," said UNL pianist Ann Chang, artistic director for the Lied Center. "I've always admired his deep understanding of composers like Bach and Chopin and I'm thrilled that we are able to present an artist of this caliber at the Lied Center. I would encourage all music lovers to make a special effort to attend this rare opportunity to hear a true master in live concert."

Born in Moscow in 1952, Feltsman debuted with the Moscow Philharmonic at age 11. In 1969, he entered the Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatory of Music to study piano under the guidance of Professor Jacob Flier. He also studied conducting at both the Moscow and Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) Conservatories. In 1971, Feltsman won the Grand Prix at the Marguerite Long International Piano Competition in Paris.

A dedicated educator of young musicians, Feltsman holds the distinguished chair of professor of piano at the State University of New York, New Paltz, and is a member of the piano faculty at the Mannes College of Music in New York City. He is the founder and artistic director of the International Festival-Institute PianoSummer at New Paltz, a three-week-long, intensive training program for advanced piano students that attracts major young talents from all over the world.
