The Chair : AFRICA at The Actors Cut

Presented by The Actors Cut, The Chair is a series of intimate solo performances exploring identity, belonging, struggle, and the search for a better life. Each show introduces a different man whose experiences reveal the choices, sacrifices, and turning points that shape who we become.

With a barber’s chair as the central setting, the series draws on the barbershop’s tradition as a place for conversation, reflection, and connection. Personal stories open the door to larger questions about home, opportunity, freedom, and resilience.

Through its individual productions, including America, Africa, and Prison Sentence, The Chair invites audiences to consider lives and perspectives beyond their own. Each story stands on its own while contributing to a shared exploration of what it means to be seen, understood, and heard.
