Welcome spring and welcome to DAHA’s Spring Musicale! A highlight of the 2025 program is Antonín Dvoák's delightful Quintet in A Major Opus 81 for Piano and Strings. A triumph of the form, composed in 1887, the piece is renowned worldwide for its beautiful melodies and joyous dance rhythms, echoing Czech and Slavic folk themes as well as offering the best in traditional music style. Another gem, Dvoák’s spirited piano Furiant in D major, opus 42 No. 1, opens the program.
The exciting vocal presentation will include a spiritual and art song arranged by Harry T. Burleigh, the African American composer and singer befriended by Dvoák during his American sojourn, plus songs by his fellow composer Moses Hogan and Dvoák’s own beloved "Songs My Mother Taught Me."
In addition, talented young students from Juilliard will perform a movement from Dvoák’s great "American" String Quartet, composed while summering in the Midwestern countryside In 1893 and exemplifying the American spirit.
