Cashback Isn't Just for Credit Cards: How Crypto Traders Reclaim Part of Every Trade
Most people first meet the word cashback on a credit card statement, where a small slice of what you spend quietly comes back to you. The same idea has reached a corner of the crypto world, and for people who trade often, the amounts are far from small.
The fee nobody really notices
Every time someone buys or sells on a crypto exchange, the exchange takes a fee. On any single trade it looks tiny, a fraction of a percent. But an active trader placing dozens of orders a week pays that fee over and over, and across a year it quietly becomes one of their largest costs. Most people never add it up.
Where the money comes back from
A handful of services have built a way to return part of that cost, and the mechanism is less mysterious than it sounds. Exchanges, like many online businesses, pay a commission to partners who bring them customers. A cashback platform such as Trade Reclaim registers a trader through that partner system, collects the commission the exchange would have paid anyway, and hands most of it back to the trader. It is close to how credit-card cashback is funded out of the fees merchants already pay. The trader spends nothing extra, and the exchange charges the same as always.
How much, and across how many exchanges
What matters is the share you get back. Trade Reclaim, for example, pays back between 30 and 50% of the trading fees an account generates, in the stablecoin USDT, regardless of the trader's status on the exchange. It works across 10 exchanges from a single account, so someone who trades in several places collects the rebate in one wallet rather than chasing it venue by venue. For a heavy trader, a third to a half of a year of fees is real money.
Why it does not require handing over an account
The natural worry with any tool that connects to a trading account is what it can do once it is in. Here the answer is very little. The service works from the public ID that every exchange account already has, the same identifier used to credit a referral. It never asks for passwords, API keys, or permission to move funds, and the money stays in the trader's own account the entire time. The connection is closer to showing a loyalty number than handing over a key.
Who actually benefits
Like most things tied to volume, cashback rewards the active. A casual buyer who places a couple of trades a year will see very little. Someone moving serious monthly volume across one or more exchanges is the person for whom a standing rebate turns into a meaningful sum by year end. It is less a gimmick than a quiet way to trim a cost that was always there.
The bigger pattern
Cashback has spent years teaching consumers to expect a little back on money they were going to spend anyway. Its arrival in crypto trading follows the same logic, applied to a fee most traders had written off as unavoidable. For the people paying the most in fees, it is a small habit with a surprisingly large annual footprint.
