Greek Theater on Screen: Sophocles' Electra at Symphony Space

First staged at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus in 2025 before touring Greece and Cyprus, Poreia Theatre’s acclaimed production of Sophocles’ Electra now comes to New York for its U.S. screen premiere.

Performed in Greek with English subtitles.

Director Dimitri Tarlow transforms the tragedy into a noir “dark European cabaret,” where music, memory and revolt collide. Loukia Michalopoulou stars as Electra, a daughter whose demand for justice confronts the devastating cycle of revenge, opposite Aglaia Pappa as Clytemnestra.

This one-night screening offers New York audiences a rare opportunity to experience ancient Greek tragedy through a contemporary Greek theatrical lens.
