Barry Rowell’s “Freedom’s Last Stand” boldly dives into conspiracies and extremism in the Obie Award-Winning Peculiar Works Project’s immersive production featuring original rock music by a live band. In this world premiere directed by Mia Y. Anderson, a lone gunman, isolated in a cabin in the woods, balances on the edge of reason while confronted by federal agents in a tension-filled stand-off. The multi-media-packed play, running from May 29-June 14, puts the audiences inside a world filled with the radical beliefs and fanatical obsessions of white supremacists, incels, and tradwives throughout Target Margin’s Doxsee Theater, 232 52nd Street, Brooklyn 11220.
Says Rowell, “After I first explored this subject onstage in the ‘90s, I saw how beliefs once considered extremist and fringe are now being fully embraced by an alarming percentage of Americans today. I wanted the audience to be surrounded by the action so that they could experience how seductive this darkly attractive worldview can be.”
