New Orange Theatre Company (formerly Snow Dance Corp.) will present Anton Chekhov’s WOOD DEMON in a new adaptation by resident playwright Scout Backus. The company returns to East Village Basement (321 E 9th St, New York, NY 10003) following their run of Backus’ play Snow Dance earlier this year. This fresh adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s The Wood Demon follows the wealthy inhabitants of a random Russian forest as they navigate being stars of a brand new reality TV show, Serebryakov and Friends. Sexy, absurd, and possibly incestual, Scout Backus’ version of Chekhov’s biggest failure brings these characters to life and puts their flaws on the utmost display. “As our most ambitious production to date, WOOD DEMON marks big changes for the company,” says New Orange co-founder and Artistic Director Riley Scott. “I’m thrilled that we will be presenting not only our longest running show yet, but also our resident playwright’s first adaptation.” WOOD DEMON runs November 14th through November 23rd, 2025 with performances at 7pm, and Sunday matinees at 1pm. Tickets start at $25. For more information, and to purchase tickets, visit www.neworangetheatre.com, and @neworange.nyc on Instagram.
