The Araca Group Opens ARACAWORKS Reading Series Tonight

By:

The Araca Group's AracaWorks will present a week-long reading series featuring the New York premieres of three plays by Duncan Macmillan, Randall Colburn, and Joe Waechter. Gaye Taylor Upchurch, Kip Fagan, and Margot Bordelon will direct the series.

Audiences will be treated each night to a reading of a new play at the Early Stages of development. Araca's goal with this project is to create a platform for the development of new plays and new voices. The series provides an outlet for playwrights to explore their material in a forum open to the public, yet safe from critical reviews.

Admission is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. Reservations are suggested and may be made online at www.aracaworks.com

Schedule of Readings:

Monday, July 29th at 6:00 p.m.

Lungs, written by Duncan Macmillan/directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch

About Lungs:
In a time of global anxiety, terrorism, erratic weather and political unrest, a young couple wants a child but is running out of time. If they over think it, they'll never do it. But if they rush, it could be a disaster. They want to have a child for the right reasons. But what exactly are the right reasons in a world rife with chaos?

Tuesday, July 30th at 6:00 p.m.
Burn Girl Prom Queen, written by Randall Colburn/directed by Kip Fagan

About Burn Girl Prom Queen:
Prom is right around the corner in Houghton Lake, a dying resort town in Central Michigan. Jo is about to be crowned Queen. She's also expecting a baby. She's also way too young for this shit. A nostalgic exploration of youth and small-town royalty, wherein idols are shattered and archetypes stripped bare.

Thursday, August 1st at 6:00 p.m.
Profiles, written by Joe Waechter *Winner of the AracaWorks Graduate Playwriting Award

Directed by Margot Bordelon
About Profiles:
It's just another night of popcorn and Jeopardy, when Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins receive a phone call that changes their lives forever. Through turns both harrowing and humorous, Profiles explores how an unthinkable act of violence echoes through the lives of the perpetrator's family, as they struggle to find relief and forgiveness in a rapidly disintegrating world.
