ROM COM IRL Will Come to Sid Gold's Request Room
The Reckless Romantics bring audience-driven improv romance to NYC's West Village piano bar.
The Reckless Romantics will present ROM COM IRL: The Improv Musical Rom Com Dating Show, where you, the audience, help a real-life single contestant fall in love by living out the plot of a fully improvised musical rom com made up in real time. First, the audience gets to know our contestant– their hopes, dreams, dating history, and what they're looking for in a partner. Then, with the audience as the Writer's Room, performers create a one-night-only Hollywood-style romantic comedy on the spot. The event is set for May 20.
Expect meet-cutes, heartbreak, plot twists, improvised musical numbers, and maybe even a dance battle or two. You'll set the scene, we'll set the song, and together we'll turn one person's dating life into a musical rom com adventure. There will be comedy. There will be drama. There may be dance battles? Above all… there will be love.
The evening features hosts Tess Richie and Alex Petrullo, performances by Meg Millane Chizek, Joe McGinty on the keys, plus a real-life single contestant and potential suitors each month. ROM COM IRL plays monthly at Sid Gold's Request Room, and audiences are invited to stick around after the show for live piano karaoke beginning at 9:00 PM.
Alex Petrullo is a singer, writer, performer and creator of The Reckless Romantics productions. She performs her original work around the city and has debuted her solo show, “Crave,” off Broadway at The Cherry Lane directed by Gretchen Cryer. When she's not helping people fall in love Hollywood style, you can find her sharing original music at Pangea and on Youtube where she writes, performs, and produces the “Reckless Romantics Support Group Mini Series”. Alex has a BFA in Drama from NYU Tisch and a Masters in Delusion and being Reckless in the name of love… and writing about it.
Tess Richie is a writer, performer, and professional love guru in NYC. She graduated from Tisch where she began writing comedies and looking for love in all the wrong places. Her two-woman show Shame-Full ran at The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre New York & LA and was a 'Best of the Fest' winner at the Emerging Artists Theatre Festival. Her one woman show Cuntessa was a Broadway World 'Best Alternative Cabaret' nominee.
Joe McGinty is a NYC-based composer and keyboardist who spent five years with the Psychedelic Furs and had worked with the Ramones, Ronnie Spector and any others. He's composed music for Bored to Death, The Daily Show, and One More Time starring Christopher Walken. He founded the Loser's Lounge tribute series at Joe's Pub and co-owns the piano karaoke bar Sid Gold's Request Room. He also has a studio with a vintage synthesizer collection he will absolutely tell you about.
Sid Gold's Request Room is the premier live piano karaoke bar in the country, with iconic locations in New York, Detroit, Nashville and Washington D.C. Known for its magical, one-of-a-kind experience, the audience becomes just as much a part of the show as the singer on stage.
