Photo Flash: In Rehearsal with TRIAL, a New Play Directed by Lori Petty

Rehearsals for Ashley Griffin's "Trial" are now complete! Our cast, crew, and production team have been loading into the Beckmann Theater this Monday. Trial marks film director and star Lori Petty's NYC theatre directing debut. While we tech, enjoy this photo flash of a behind-the-scenes look into the rehearsal room.

Developed over the past six years with readings produced by Dreamcatcher Entertainment, The Ivy Theatre Company, and Red Fern Theatre Company, this will mark the first workshop production of the play, produced by THML Theatre Company off-off Broadway, in the Beckmann Theater at The American Theatre of Actors.

Trial tells the story of a young woman waiting for her own judgment in the bureaucratic system of the afterlife, who finds herself in the role of judge and jury to determine the fate of the man responsible for her death. An intimately difficult yet moving play, Trial questions the morality of justice versus mercy.

The cast features a brilliant ensemble of actors: Gisela Adisa* (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical), Jennifer Bareilles (The Light of the Moon, The PIT), Ryan Clardy* (One Life to Live), George Drance* (mark*, MAGIS Theatre Company), Ashley Griffin* ("Hamlet" in Hamlet, Snow, Forever Deadward), Malloree Hill (Everyday Inferno Theatre Company), Jeté Laurence (The Snowman), and Malcolm Stephenson* (The Sisters Rosensweig).

Trial runs 105 minutes, with one 10-minute intermission.

Trial is assistant directed by Madeline O'Hara, and stage managed by Traci Bargen. The assistant stage manager is Robert Peatman. Kayla Friend is the executive producer. John Albert Harris is the co-producer. Madelyn Paquette and Kurt Robbins are the associate producers.

THML Theatre Company (Cagebirds, Where Angels Fear To Tread) is a new theatre company in New York City dedicated to engaging audiences with stories of women who survive and thrive. Tahamul is a word in Arabic and Farsi which translates, "to endure," or "to bear the burden." The Arabic letters which form this word are ta, ha, miim, and laam (THML). Trial notes THML's third staged production this year.

After her breakout starring role in Point Break, Lori Petty quickly achieved celebrity status in Hollywood starring in A League of Their Own, Tank Girl and others. Most recently she has become the fan favorite star of Orange Is the New Black and Gotham. Lori made her directorial debut with the feature film The Poker House (Jennifer Lawrence's first film) which Lori co-wrote.

More information can be found at www.thml.org/trial. Tickets can be purchased online at www.artful.ly/store/events/14016, or in-person 30-minutes prior to the show. A limited number of discounted standing room tickets will be sold at the door in the event of a sold out performance.

Trial opens on January 11, 2018 and runs until January 28, 2018. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8:00PM, Sundays at 3:00PM.
