Moriah Evans Premiere […/+*^%€£¥$&@!!!!^^^] Announced At The Chocolate Factory Theater

The The Chocolate Factory Theater will present the premiere of […/+*^%<>€£¥$&@!!!!^^^], a new evening-length dance work by Moriah Evans, running June 5–13, 2026 in Long Island City. The production is part of the venue’s Spring 2026 season and is co-commissioned with the Walker Art Center.

The work takes place over two hours in an immersive performance environment, where performers and audience move through shifting structures and spatial relationships. Evans’ choreography examines the body as a site shaped by political, social, and sensory forces, using movement to explore questions of power, dependency, and value. The intentionally unsayable title signals a resistance to fixed interpretation, positioning the work as a response to contemporary conditions that evade clear articulation.

Drawing on a range of movement vocabularies—from postmodern pedestrian actions to formal dance techniques and speculative somatic practices—the performance unfolds as a sequence of evolving interactions. The scenography reconfigures the theater’s industrial architecture, while the choreography investigates how bodies relate within systems of exchange, repetition, and change.

Following its New York premiere, a subsequent iteration of the work will be presented at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis in October 2026.

The creative team includes Evans as director and choreographer, with performers Cyril Baldy, Malcolm-x Betts, Chloë Engel, Kris Lee, João dos Santos Martins, and Varinia Canto Vila. Design collaborators include lighting designer Madeline Best, scenic designer Doris Dziersk, sound designer Ian Douglas Moore, and Costume Designer Strauss Bourque-LaFrance, with dramaturgy by Joshua Lubin-Levy.

TICKETING INFORMATION

Performances will take place June 5–6 and June 11–13 at 7 p.m. at The Chocolate Factory Theater, located at 38-33 24th Street in Long Island City, Queens. Tickets are available in advance at https://chocolatefactorytheater.org.
