DDR Presents BINGO!, 9/13

Broadway and Off-Broadway producer Ken Davenport (author of the popular blog, The Producer's Perspective) will present Bingo! as the third selection in THE DAVENPORT DEVELOPMENTAL READING SERIES, four readings of new works (plays and/or musicals), on Monday, September 13th at Urban Stages Theater (259 West 30th Street, NYC): Ian Kennedy's Bingo! Directed by Daniel Goldstein.

Featured in the cast will be Elizabeth Hess, Sharon Wilkins, Paul Downs Colaizzo, and Andrew Durand. The reading will be followed by a talkback with the playwright.

There is nothing fiercer than a game of Bingo. Tensions are high and competition FIERCE. In Mr. Kennedy's new play Bingo! amidst the competition, gossip flourishes and secrets are revealed. Who knew a Bingo game could contain hidden sexualities, illicit affairs, matching heart-shaped tattoos, AND good luck dollies? Interactive, Fun, Exciting!

is the third presentation in the Davenport Developmental Reading Series. The series takes place every three months and highlights new plays or musicals from exciting up-and-coming writers. Ian Kennedy (Playwright):

Since graduating from Indiana State University in 1998, Ian has been involved in the theatre and comedy scene of Indianapolis. His one-act play, Postcards From the Subconscious Mind, won the Mary McReid Beth Award at ISU. His short play, The Forbidden Dance of the Chocolate Chip Ice Cream was featured the ISU Black Theatre Program Open House. He's put in five years at Indiana Repertory

Theatre as a lighting technician to pay the bills while honing his writing, acting, and directing skills. The screenplay version of Bingo! was the winner in the first ever bmovieonline.com screenwriting contest in 2007. The full-length play of Bingo! is being produced at the Gorilla Tango Theatre in Chicago, Sept. 2010.

Ken Davenport's recent Broadway productions include Oleanna starring Bill Pullman and Julia Stiles, Speed-the-Plow starring Raul Esparza, Will Ferrell's You're Welcome America, Blithe Spirit starring Angela Lansbury, and 13. Ken is the only independent producer to have had three shows running simultaneously Off-Broadway - Altar Boyz, The Awesome 80s Prom and My First Time. He was featured on a national commercial for Apple's iPhone, named one of Crain's "Forty Under 40" in 2008, and dubbed the "P.T. Barnum of Off-Broadway" by The New York Times. He also recently accepted the 2010 Award of Distinction from the Musical Theatre Society. Current projects include producing the Broadway revivals of Godspell and Aaron Sorkin's A Few Good Men, penning the musical adaptation of Somewhere In Time, launching his latest creative collaboration Miss Abigail's Guide to Dating, Mating & Marriage, and shooting a documentary on one of the top unsigned rock bands in the country - Red Wanting Blue. Ken created and developed the AT THE BOOTH^TM iPhone app which Entertainment Weekly called "the best thing to happen to theater since, well, the introduction of the TKTS® booth." He also runs a number of theatrical websites including Broadway's #1 social networking site - BroadwaySpace.com. His blog, TheProducersPerspective.com, has been featured in Vanity Fair, New York Magazine, The Gothamist and many others. He has written articles for Forbes, Mashable, Imedia and others.
